I have to say that I was EXTREMELY impressed with Michelle Obama the other night |
|
To be honest I didn't know if I was going to like her and I hadn't seen enough of her to form much of an opinion. That is until I watched her speak the other night. I was completely blown away and impressed about as much as anyone can impress me. After seeing who she is and how real, smart, kind, interesting, fun and overflowing with depth she is I sat there blown away! She is clearly every bit as dynamic and smart as Obama and would probably make a great president one day!
Let me just say that she left me in tears! What a great person and family she comes from!

2. In a convention brimming with great speeches |

Hers was probably one of the best. And thank you for raising the topic again.

If I had, I am sure I would have commented then. Had to share the love sometime.

6. I was impressed when watching her watch the convention |
|
The camera kept going to her during Hillary's speech, and Michelle's emotions were written all over her face. A little anxious about what Hillary might say, and then a lot of gratitude and affirmation and grace. Each speech, I watched her face and became extremely proud of this American woman. Fiercely for her husband. Fiercely for families. She stands on the shoulders of millions of fierce, strong women.
I'm on her side. Despite that purple print dress.

7. I wasn't sure I was going to like her either |

But she made a believer out of me. I noticed that when Beau Biden was speaking and recounting his father's love and devotion to his family, Michelle had a tissue in her hand and kept wiping her eyes. I was moved to tears as well.

I found her poised and able to deliver a speech well, but the content was sickly sweet and demeaning for a potential first lady of her intellectual and public stature.
Her previous speeches out on the campaign trail, about the powers that be "moving the goalposts" on the lower and middle classes, were much, MUCH better. I suspect the handlers told her she needed to be more "feminine" and "first ladyish" and "traditional" to avoid being painted as an "angry black woman." Watching it made me angry.
I was disappointed; but I still love her. I wish she'd write a book about her life. She's quite inspirational.

12. It was Michelle being Michelle .. |

I use to read about how great Michelle was on DU from those who had heard her speak before I supported Obama and then the California rally came along(Caroline Kennedy, Oprah, Maria Schiver) before the primary and Michelle brought the House down! She had me right then and there.
