Enough already with the whining!
I had a friend tonight tell me she didn't think Kerry was going to win. It seems like every ten minutes someone is starting a thread on how poorly Kerry is doing. I know the media has been harping on that theme for the last couple of weeks.

You know what? Everybody counted Kerry out before the primaries. The media said he didn't have a snowball's chance in hell. Very few people here believed he could pull off a victory. I spoke to peopple on the ground in Iowa and NH, and frankly, they didn't see it coming, either.

Yes, I would have preferred Kerry pick Clark for VP. Yes, I wish Kerry would have come out swinging against the Swiftboat liars from the very beginning. Yes, I wish Kerry would take a stronger stance on Iraq.

I don't, however, feel hopeless. I still have faith in Kerry. I know our best days are ahead of us, and I intend to do my part right up until the polls are closed.

I understand the anxiety people feel, but it's counterproductive to complain and wallow in gloom. We all get so emotionally involved, and this Smear campaign has been draining. We need to get revitalized, and do what Kerry has always done when things get rough: fight back and fight harder.

1. HELL YEAH
If I were in charge of everyone, I'd say this: everytime you want to wring your hands and moan about this poll or that one, you have to go out and register five people to vote. Or phone bank in a swing state. Or SOMETHING.

Action is the cure, people. Don't whine, take action. EVEN LITTLE ACTIONS HELP. Wear a Kerry button on your purse. Pick one person a week to "come out to" in your support of Kerry. Put a signature at the bottom of your personal emails that tells everyone you support Kerry.

You don't have to be some super campaign worker to help. Type your county name and Democratic party into Google and find your county Dem party. CALL THEM UP AND ASK HOW YOU CAN HELP!!!!!

Buck up, everyone. Politics ain't no tea party.

3. I can't figure it out.
Seems to me the Repos are running scared. Now the wingnuts on ISP boards and newspaper discussion boards are trying to stop the conversations on the sbvt.

2. Hey, I LIKE this one!
I have lately taken to telling people that "if bush steals another one, it WON'T be because I sat on my ass."

Frankly, girl gone mad, I'm still a Howard Dean lover. And we all know how MY preferred candidate ended up. But he's still out there fighting and ROARING. He's still swinging his sword. And his strikes are drawing blood. He didn't just roll up and go home and cry in his beer. He transformed his campaign, and now is a FABULOUS surrogate for Kerry, willing and VERY able to say what Kerry might not be able to say himself, considering the possible ramifications. I find tremendous inspiration and encouragement in that, much as I've found a lot of it while getting to know - and come to support - John Kerry. Howard Dean will be able to look at himself in his bathroom mirror on November 3rd, come what may, and STAND TALL. He NEVER gave up, OR lost his backbone. We ALL need to be able to say we can do that.

Something else I like to tell people: Imagine it's November 3rd. bush either squeaked by, or got close enough to steal it, which his henchmen are presently in the process of doing. And you did nothing. How do you feel now? Even if the worst happens, I will NOT have to stand there and face myself and ashamedly admit that I did nothing.

Those who do nothing, or let their discouragement or their disheartened feelings get the best of them, will be a big part of making that worst case a lot more likely. I'm NOT gonna be one of 'em. In fact, I REFUSE. Just as I'm NO LONGER concerned about speaking out when it's necessary. I realized the bad guys can't build enough Gitmos to hold ALL OF US (hell, when it comes to that, and they try that, they'll only be creating MORE of us than they can ever hope to contain.) I won't have that on my conscience - knowing I gave in to my gloom and let it freeze me in my tracks so I wouldn't fight back. I gather, from everyone else's posts here at DU, that none of US will have that sorry state of affairs eating away at our consciences for the rest of our lives, either. And THAT, whatever else the outcome, will FOREVER MORE be a good thing.

5. Absolutely.
One thing is for sure: if enough of us sit around and whine, we are doing exactly what Rove and dumbya want us to do.

The Swiftlies are not draining, they are inspiring many of us to work that much harder, because we can't afford to fail. Imagine what these animals will do in four more years if they don't have to worry about re-election in 2008.

As a Vietnam Vet, I will not stnd by and allow this s***bag coward to get away with his lies.

6. Never Surrender. I want to have a mental image of going to battle on
November 2nd. This is the fight of our lives and we cannot go down without expending whatever energy we have to win. I do not want to wake up on November 3rd asking myself what else could I have done to win this fight. I want to know that I did everything in my power on November 2nd.
