WHAT DOES BRISTOL'S PREGNANCY MEAN?? |
|
So, now that this is out, let's evaluate what all of this means:
1. Babygate is officially dead, yet Grandma gate is alive and well
2. Did Sarah tell John McCain that her daughter was pregnant before she accepted the position? A) If YES - that means he knew this would come out and didn't care.. or planned on this making her more sympathetic B) If NO - that means she hid a total bomb shell that she KNEW would come out. Why would she do this to herself, and her daughter?
3. Does this ultimately HELP or HURT the McCain camp?
4. How do they spin this?
5. Does this force Sarah Palin to resign from the VP nom to be at home and help her family? Is this what they use to get somewhat out of this mess?

We find anything Palin has said or written condemning premarital sex, promoting abstinence-only sex ed, and see if she commented publicly about Jamie Lynn Spears' pregnancy (a near-identical situation). Then we send out those bullet points to the media as evidence of hypocrisy.

or at least not until it was too late. Despite what they say (they aren't gonna admit that this woman was not vetted at all).
The fundies may be pissed not because of the pregnancy, but because of the whole not-being-married thing. Then again, they could be completely hypocritical about it and not care.

30. She Kept Her Kid Home from school for more than half of a school year! |
|
Clearly no one was paying attention that she was feeling better/recovered from mono, and thought perhaps she ought to go back to school.
In many states if a child is out of school that long, and there is no updated medical information, charges can be levelled for keeping the child out of school. Indiana still has a truancy court.
Clearly Bristol's education is not much of a concern to the Palin family.

I heard his avg. gpa was less then 2.0 - so that is why he had to join the military... looks like Sarah has been a much better politician then a mother.... which in itself isn't a problem, but it's not like her husband is picking up the slack either. :eyes:

would choose abortion is a bogus defense. This isn't about Obama and what he would or would not have done if it were his child in this situation.
To me this is about the VP candidate who can't manage her own family but wants to impose her values on the entire country,

Edited on Mon Sep-01-08 11:48 AM by liberalmuse
Who would drag their teen into the spotlight for a lousy VP position in the McCain campaign? What kind of parent would take such a position when they have a special needs child AND an unmarried, pregnant minor? I am trying to fathom what kind of heinous parent would do that to their daughter all for a fucking VP position that they are wholly unqualified for. This just boggles the mind! That poor girl! Palin is a fucking atrocity.

for all of those parents of teenage girls out there.
Between this and the celebrity-celebration pregnancy of Britney Spears' sister, the media are going to be complicit in adding to the desirability of young teen promiscuity and pregnancy.
It is likely Sarah Palin and McCain are going to play this for the pro-life angle: Palin insisted that her daughter have the child.
It is up to the Dems to paint Palin as--not necessarily weak on morality--but rather a failure in communicating the moral behavior she espouses to her own family.

Isn't that convenient...the CANDIDATE (job interviewer) with the 'abstinence only' policy against unwanted pregnancy can't be questioned on this 'minor' detail?

after all, the good Christian must forgive and they will most likely relate since this is a common occurrence among teens, it even happens with preachers kids.
I don't see a lot of fallout over the situation. I wish people were more awake but right now they aren't, now it'll be up to Obama to lead the fight against these two.

1. Babygate is officially dead, yet Grandma gate is alive and well
yes. the benefits of this line of talking points remain to be seen.
2. Did Sarah tell John McCain that her daughter was pregnant before she accepted the position?
apparently yes.
A) If YES - that means he knew this would come out and didn't care.. or planned on this making her more sympathetic
apparently yes.
B) If NO - that means she hid a total bomb shell that she KNEW would come out. Why would she do this to herself, and her daughter?
apparently no.
3. Does this ultimately HELP or HURT the McCain camp?
i would submit that it will be a wash. any potential damage will be offset by the fact that the rumormongerers on the left once again overreached, as with rathergate, as with katrina (bush blew up the levees), giving republican poor judgment cover through ridiculous levels of hyperbole that blur the issue, causing the legitimate criticism baby to be thrown out of the public consciousness with the scurrilous bathwater.
4. How do they spin this?
as a family closing ranks and loving each other. it sounds sappy, but it'll work to some degree.
5. Does this force Sarah Palin to resign from the VP nom to be at home and help her family? Is this what they use to get somewhat out of this mess?
doubtful.

26. I'll answer my own questions.. |
|
I think she told McCain. I really do.. i think he knew all about this from the beginning, and thought it would be part of the "fantastic spin", and get sympathetic votes. I think it might backfire - but that's all part of the "hail mary" McCain was looking for. There is NO WAY he couldn't have known about this - but there are alot of people who will think he didn't know about it and will question his judgement.
3. Does this ultimately HELP or HURT the McCain camp? I think it will hurt a little.. it goes back to Grandpa's judgement. Not only is she unexperienced.. etc, etc.. but now this too. If this was the ONLY issue, then I don't think it would be a problem.. but now for the fudie's who liked her because she was a Christian conservative but were a bit hesitant about her lack of "experience".. they now have a reason to stay home. Most won't, but a few will.
4. How do they spin this? As stated above.. her family is "pro-life", and Bristol will have and raise this baby. Don't get me started on the disaster that will be 2 17 year old kids getting married for the sake of the child.. that's a whole different post.
5. Does this force Sarah Palin to resign from the VP nom to be at home and help her family? Is this what they use to get somewhat out of this mess? I don't know... i'm 50% / 50% on this. I think it will totally depend on how it polls. If McCain goes down, he'll drop her (or she'll thoughtfully resign). If the polls go up or stay the same - she'll stay on board.
