The Religious Right has officially jumped the shark.
Edited on Mon Sep-01-08 11:38 PM by JackBeck
Gary Bauer weighs in:

"Bristol Palin and her family understand that a new life has been created. The commitment to bring that life into the world is a testament to their pro- life philosophy. I commend them for the example they are setting for other women in crisis pregnancies."

(qoute from) http://www.pamshouseblend.com/

How sweet of him. I wonder if he had the same love and compassion for Mary Cheney and her partner when they had their baby.

You remember Mary Cheney, right...the current Vice President's daughter?

I hope all of you are enjoying the implosion of the Religious Right as much as I am. It's been a long and annoying couple of decades in the making, yet it's happening right before our eyes. I honestly can't get enough, truth be told, now that it is finally here.

James Dobson, Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, Jesse Helms, et al., had their moment to shine and their movement had the opportunity to bring this nation together under GOD. But for lack of a better term, they collectively had an "EPIC FAIL". It's over. They are done.

Bush, Jr. was their Savior and they pretty much got nothing for all their phony prayers and illegitimate fundraisers. One just needs to look at the Fundie kids to see they don't give two shits about the gays and abortion.

And over the weekend, Palin was the final nail in the Religious Right's coffin.

James Dobson on the Palin's unwed pregnant daughter:

"In the 32-year history of Focus on the Family, we have offered prayer, counseling and resource assistance to tens of thousands of parents and children in the same situation the Palins are now facing. We have always encouraged the parents to love and support their children and always advised the girls to see their pregnancies through, even though there will of course be challenges along the way. That is what the Palins are doing, and they should be commended once again for not just talking about their pro-life and pro-family values, but living them out even in the midst of trying circumstances.
"Being a Christian does not mean you're perfect. Nor does it mean your children are perfect. But it does mean there is forgiveness and restoration when we confess our imperfections to the Lord. I've been the beneficiary of that forgiveness and restoration in my own life countless times, as I'm sure the Palins have.

"The media are already trying to spin this as evidence Gov. Palin is a 'hypocrite,' but all it really means is that she and her family are human. They are in my prayers and those of millions of Americans."

And here's a reaction from Tony Perkins:

"Fortunately, Bristol is following her mother and father's example of choosing life in the midst of a difficult situation. We are committed to praying for Bristol and her husband-to-be and the entire Palin family as they walk through a very private matter in the eyes of the public," Perkins added.

It's over, folks. The Family Values crew has officially jumped the shark.

6. You feel it though, right, buddy?
I meant what I said above. I really think it's finally coming to an end...this national nightmare that has hovered over our community for over the past 20 years.

It's finally over. How can ANY Family Values, Religious Right talking head have any footing to stand on after this current revelation?

No matter how much they try to re-frame this debate.

And here it is. The official end to the Christian Coalition.

23. Why wasn't that a "very private matter"?
I just wish Palin didn't stick her nose into the business of other women. What she wants to decide about her own life and body is find. More power to her.

But holding herself up as as some sort of pro-life example is the reason why the karmic boomerang is headed her way.

20. Abstinence Only education has lead to an increase in transmission of STDs.
Since there's no condoms or education on how to use condoms, studies have shown that kids are now getting STDs in increasing numbers.

The Fundies love the fetus, yet hate the child.

A slim chance, but it's possible.

Prop 8 is going down, my friend. All of the polls have a majority opposing it. The onus is on the amendment sponsors to explain why same-sex marriage is so damaging that California needs to write discrimination into the state constitution. It's not going to play this time. :-)

10. whenEVER you see Dobson, always refer to this:
"The boy's father has to do his part. He needs to mirror and affirm his son's maleness. He can play rough-and-tumble games with his son, in ways that are decidedly different from the games he would play with a little girl. He can help his son learn to throw and catch a ball. He can teach him to pound a square wooden peg into a square hole in a pegboard.

He can even take his son with him into the shower, where the boy cannot help but notice that Dad has a penis, just like his, only bigger." (Dr. Nicolosi - excerpt from transcript <2>

http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/James_Dobson

that quote was scrubbed from Dobson's site the day it was discussed heavily here. I found it there, and linked it a few times, then went back a few hours later, and it was.....gone!

keep this quote alive; mention it whenever you see Dobson's name come up.

in fact he has no theology training at all.

22. A failure as a parent.
Did she not know her daughter was sexually active? If not, why not? Was it too hard for her daughter to bring it up? Was it easier for both of them to just pretend that it wasn't happening? Did she feel that she had done her job by simply telling her daughter to practice abstinence?

I know the drill in families like this. The kid gets into trouble, and the kid is blamed for the whole thing. The parent takes no responsibility--the kid was not obeying so the kid gets what she deserves. "Serves you right!" "Now you have to pay the consequences." I heard that tone in the statement they released about how she would have to "grow up now" etc. Behind closed doors it's probably a wee bit harsher.

Parents like this never take any of the blame, never. I've been there--not this exact experience, but other stuff. And I'm not repeating this with my own kids.

Why does it become a "very private matter" when it is their failings, and it becomes world-wide knowledge when a sitting US President has a moral slip? Why did the Republicans put U.S. citizens through months of probes, investigations, to the point it was a source of humor for everyone?
