...you can damn well bet that--this time--John McCain is going to go with who HE wants as his running mate.
Folks, that will be either Lieberman or Ridge.
The MSM has consistently reported, during the past two days, that McCain's first and second choices were Lieberman and Ridge, respectively. McCain was told that if he picked Lieberman, that there would be an open fight on the convention floor.
From a position of anger, weakness and frustration--McCain selected Sarah Palin.
Can you imagine how infuriated John McCain is right now? His own party threatened to destroy him if he picked Lieberman, so he allowed them to have THEIR way, and now he is suffering the consequences of not doing what he wanted.
If Palin ends up stepping down, you can make damn sure that McCain will do whatever the hell he pleases as far as his running mate choices.
McCain will pick Lieberman or Ridge, then the Fundie base of the party will implode and it's hello to an Obama/Biden 2008 victory.

15. Yup. McCain is boxed in with Palin |
|
He needs to dump her but when he does it draws even more attention to his lack of judgment.

She CAN'T step down. She's hurting him now, but if they drop her they are stick-a-fork-in-'em done.
Cognitive dissonance is carrying the True Believers through right now, and that's who Palin was picked to appeal to.

If there's been one GOP theme, it's "Never apologize, never explain, never admit you made a mistake"
They'll stick by her, spin it hard, and hope for the best.

4. I think Lieberman or Ridge may challenge us electorally. |
|
I honestly believe either man has more cred with former imbittered Hillary supporters. I also think Lieberman would win over some conservatives regardless of his position on choice?
I'd be concerned if he chose either man, personally. But a nice compromise would have been Pawlenty. He actually does have experience as a Governor, and he's a darling to Conservatives in Minnesota.

How can you elect a man president who had 6 months to get the decision right and then fucks it up
If he is in the middle of an argument pisses of Putin and Putin invades Ukraine what is McCain going to do ask for a Mulligan?

First they step down and then they have to go around and find somebody that will accept it
It just gets real messy and all your credibility is shot.

11. Lieberman and Romney are problems that would take out McCain if Palin steps down. |
|
Ridge, since I don't know him and Polenty might be the only ones left to go. They might be the safest.
