If McCain dumps Palin....
Edited on Tue Sep-02-08 04:22 AM by ...of J.Temperance
I believe it'll be bad for us.

I think the choice of Palin helps our ticket and I hope McCain keeps her on his ticket.

The woman has basically no experience outside of the second smallest state, with a population of 600,000 plus, and before that as being Mayor of a small town, and before that she was a sports journalist.

Palin is massively unqualified and unprepared to take over as President and C-in-C if called upon to do so.

Add to this her wacky beliefs, wanting to ban all abortions, wanting schools to only teach Creationism, being anti-contraception, her probable still held view of wanting Alaska to be it's own country, the disturbing story of her asking Alaskan libraries how to go about banning books etc.

Palin's beliefs are out of the political mainstream, Palin's beliefs come straight from the political fringes.

We needed the crap on Palin to come out in mid-October, when it probably would have been too late for McCain to dump her from his ticket and replace her....we didn't need the crap to come out THIS early....in politics TIMING is EVERYTHING.

We don't want McCain to panic and see that Palin is damaging his ticket with her being so controversial, we don't want McCain running instead with someone who DOES have experience and could therefore be seen as being qualified to assume the office of President and C-in-C at the drop of a hat, someone like Tom Ridge (ex-Governor of Pennsylvania and Secretary of Homeland Security) or Mitt Romney (ex-Governor of Massachucetts)

Doesn't matter that Ridge and Romney aren't as Fundie nutty as Palin, the broken glass Republican voters(what they call themselves, they'd crawl over broken glass to vote for ANY Republican) will still vote for them....the main problem with Ridge or Romney being added to McCain's ticket is that Independents might see that ticket as being a viable option to vote for.

I believe that Palin greatly turns off those Independents, being as she's not only a Fundie nutty but her beliefs are straight from the political fringes.

The McCain/Palin ticket should be Dole/Kemp v2....or should be what it would have been like if Dole would have ran with Dan Quayle.

It's of BENEFIT to the Democratic Party, that McCain must keep Palin as his running mate.

I don't agree that it would damage McCain if he were to dump Palin and replace her with someone else....the media whores would spin it kindly for him, it'd be:

"Oh but people sometimes make mistakes"

"At least he's recognized he's made a mistake and has chosen someone else"

"Everyone's allowed to mess up sometimes....and everyone's allowed a second chance to rectify their mistake"

We MUST NOT think that the media whores would slice and dice McCain, and use him dumping Palin and replacing her as an example of his INABILITY to make correct choices.

The media whores are NOT on our side, they would CRUCIFY ANY Democrat who messed up even on the TINIEST thing....not so with the GOP, they'll do the damage control for McCain and make sure he emerged smelling of roses.

I'm DEEPLY suspicious as to why the media whores are smacking Palin....I believe it's because the internal polls are showing that Palin is damaging McCain's chances....I believe just like with W, that the media whores want McCain in the WH....I believe the media whores are trying to help give McCain the chance to dump Palin and replace her with someone less damaging.

I'm also suspicious about the timing of it becoming public that Bristol Palin is pregnant, she's five months pregnant....WHY didn't her Mother tell everyone this the other day in Ohio when she made her first appearance with McCain?

Palin told everyone everything else about her family, why not announce THEN that she was about to become a Grandmother in four months?

I believe that Palin intended to keep this quiet until AFTER the election, but someone leaked the Bristol Palin pregnancy thing to the media whores, and they saw it as more ammo with which to hit her with ie:

"She supports abstinence teaching programs, yet she can't get her own teenage daughter to follow the abstinence program"

While I'm not being complacent, I do believe that McCain/Palin is the easier ticket to beat than say McCain/Ridge or McCain/Romney.

Those who are excited at Palin being busted THIS early, should really think....COULD we get an EASIER candidate than Palin to smackdown in November?

I don't think we could....we NEED McCain to keep Palin.

If you don't think the media whores have got the memo to: Destroy Palin so tha McCain can have the opportunity to replace her with someone who doesn't hurt his ticket.

Ask yourself this....there was a ton of crap surrounding George W. Bush in 2000, he was only a tiny bit more qualified than Palin isn't, W was and is the stupidest motherfucker to have ever ran for President....so WHY didn't the media whores set out to destroy him the way they are with Palin?

Not that I expect ANYONE to agree with this OP, but I've put it out there regardless.

As they say....be careful what you wish for....we DON'T want McCain dumping Palin, it's the easiest ticket to beat in November....sick old man running with a TOTALLY unqualified and corrupt airhead.

1. McCain is trying to dance the adagio from Swan Lake while the
band is playing polka.

McCain's team is misfiring almost daily now. There's no way they could have vetted Palin. So we're left with the notion that they are irresponsible and lazy and just didn't bother, or that they were incompetent in the first place, or that they knew what the vetting should involve and performed it, but lacked the moral judgment to convey to McCain that Palin was problematic.

It doesn't seem to me that McCain is in a winning situation. Palin is an even weaker choice than I originally thought, and I originally thought she' be something of a joke. She's actually a lot worse than that.

McCain wanted Ridge or Lieberman and went with Palin. What strange company the Republican keep.

6. I still find it
Baffling why he chose Palin....it's probably one of the most bizarre political choices in recent memory.

7. Agree. It is bizarre.
Up to the last minute I thought Eric Cantor might be the pick.

There's chatter about McCain's preferring Ridge or Lieberman. But with either of those two picks, the fundies' heads explode and they stay home in droves.

McCain bungled this one big time.

9. I can't
See how he'd be allowed to pick Holy Joe, I think the fact that Holy Joe isn't actually registered Republican + he's not a Fundie + he's pro-Choice would cause a mega bout of in-fighting, to the point McCain will be told not to even think about picking Holy Joe. Also I'm sure there's a rule where both candidates on a ticket have to be actually registered with the same political party.

Ridge is pro-Choice, I think he is anyway, but he is registered Republican, the Fundies would probably hold their noses and vote McCain/Ridge.

14. Yes. Either would make the fundies freak, but especially Lieberman.
Lieberman's domestic issues are a lot more agreeable than his grandstanding for Bush on Iraq.

But he's a no-way pick for the fundies.

Palin hasn't brought anything to the McCain campaign except confusion and rumor and contradiction and so forth. If McCain stands by his pick, he exposes himself to a rough road between now and November. If she steps aside, he has a chance to redeem the ticket, but only a slim chance, because his choices initially were so poor.

2. Only if we do not spin his error in judgement.
And we will. He personally PICKED her from EVERY other possible US citizen for the spot.

HE could have picked me, I mean, how much more experience does she have than someone like me who has worked for the government for 16 years? Really, none if you think about the day to day grind of it all.

This is one of the most beuatiful spins...he csn keep her OR dump her and the spin sticks no mater what.

8. I'm worried that
SOMEHOW the media whores will spin it to the degree where McCain gets another chance....which is what we don't want happening.

Don't forget the whole Deflection and Destraction aspect that might come into play, if it seems the spin isn't working, they'll serve up one of their deflections and/or destractions, they've done it before, they'll do it again.

4. I worry because I picture the worst case scenario in which McCain/Palin somehow eke out a win.
McCain shuffles off this mortal coil early in the term and then we're stuck with President Palin making Bush/Cheney seem like the good ol' days. I don't like the risk factor of having someone so flagrantly unqualified on a ticket that has a chance to win. It's a big risk for the nation and the world.

5. No. Dumping Failin' means that McCrash has to admit he has no executive ability.
No. Dumping Failin' means that McCrash has to admit he has no executive ability.

McCan't is screwed either way, keeping or dumping; but only if Democrats stay disciplined and keep the pressure on McCain. It was his reckless disregard for reality that put him in this mess. Maverick? No, he is yet another shoot from the hip cowboy wannabe, All Hat No Cattle.

To stay disciplined.

McCain has fucked up in a monumental way, if we stay disciplined and play this right, we can make it work to our advantage.

15. I'm super unconcerned about do over spin
only drones would buy lame crap like that and they get the drones that bother to vote automatically. You can't even worry about the people that would be do over minded.
No one with even average intelligence can possibly excuse this. It's all bad but my preference would be to see her go, just because she's sooooooooo whacked out that it disturbs me too much to even contemplate her in office. McCain should step down too, this is super terrible. John McCain is not ready to be President of The United States of America and probably never will be at his age.

At worst Obama can be made ready, that's too much to hope for from our old friend John.

13. Dumping Eagleton didn't exactly help McGovern in '72
It made him look incompetent.

Palin is still an issue even if she gets the boot.

That would mean that McCain would have to admit to having made yet another extreme faux pas. That would be even more disastrous for his candidacy. The flip-flop straw that broke the proverbial camel's back.

I'm still firmly convinced that McCain's first choice for VP was Lieberman. When his RW advisers said no, he might have said, "ok, I'll show you." Now he's hoping that he can use her to steal the election whereupon she would be "persuaded" to resign due to familial problems. Opening, again, the door for Lieberman. He could out-Rove Rove.

I think the camel is already in dire need of euthanasia.

17. We must use Palin as an example of McSames lack of judgement
He is on record saying he knew all about all of the negatives of Palin. He must by logic be supportive of those positions.

We must hammer him on why he supports succession by states.

We ask him questions on his glorification of teenage pregnancy and it's negative effect on our children.

We ask him why he chose political divisiveness over National security.

We must keep on hounding him, he made this choice he supports these positions.

It is a question of his positions and judgment. Don't let Palin be the fall person for this it must be McSame.

John McCain can we take this chance?

18. It doesn't matter whether he does or he doesn't. We've already won a major victory this round.
As long as we win the election, his VP choice (or his second VP choice) will never gain the power of the Presidency.

19. Ain't gonna happen, but if it did...
the election's OVER. Obama would have a huge judgement card to play, and it would completely trump any of McCain's experience cards. Would also depress the fundies.

One can dream...

20. Oh bullshit
IF she drops out it's over. No way does McFail come back from that blatant an example of poor judgement.

Dropping out would mean one thing and one thing only, the GOP is desperately attempting to hang onto seats down ticket.
