I work with guys that think Obama... |
|
Edited on Tue Sep-02-08 06:42 AM by SHRED
...is a Muslim "in hiding".
I kid you not.
Here in San Diego County that is not totally surprising but where do they get this nonsense from? I refuse to talk to them at work. That is not the place for discussion but politics seems to boiling over for a few of them now that Obama is doing so well. It is driving them "crazier". They are racists, I have heard them talk, and their angst at Obama is clearly unfounded which leads me to the assumption that they are to cowardly to come out and say they do not like him because of his race.
One of them listens, and buys books from, Glenn Beck. Is he pushing the idea that Barack is Muslim?
It's difficult going to work at times and facing this. They know where I stand and talk around me indirectly and not so indirectly to try and provoke me. I bite my tongue. These people are so far gone that it would do zero good to try and reason with them.
I have heard about these type of people. I just didn't realize it would hit so close to me. This concerns me as to how far reaching this type of thinking goes.
Anyone else encounter this? And again...where do they get this from?
ON EDIT: I will note that I do not have an issue with anyone being Muslim. The guys I mentioned above see anyone who is Muslim as a terrorist wanting to force Sharia Law on everyone.

Beck is a VERY effective brainwasher, to morons, he comse across a likeable malcontent with no agenda - he is VERY effective at programing extreme right wing dogma into knuckledraggers.

They know he's not a Muslim. When ever they say that crap just replace the word "Muslim" with the "N" word and you'll know where they're coming from.

9. You will never go wrong assuming ignorance of Americans |

Its just so overwhelming. Forget about science. We The People have become a national brain drain. Intelligence is seen as a negative in our society. We are dumbed down by television. Religious zealots are waging a war on our science education. You simply cannot go wrong overestimating the ignorance of Americans.

both of whom told him Obama was sworn in on the Qur'an. I endeavored to correct this misconception and was told I didn't know what I was talking about--after all, I'm only a woman. My former boss is very anti-Islamic--glad I didn't advertise my faith and glad he never found out before I got another job where the folks KNOW who I am and are very cool with it.

a whole family who believes the Earth is just about 6,000 years old and that there is no such thing as global warming and that George Bush is an honest patriot. My kids play with their son (He is a sweet kid and I hope some day to share some science with him.) They probably think Obama is the antichrist but I don't even want to ask them and what would I do once they told me this? I will not change them and they sure as hell are not going to change me.
Shred- You are dealing with Redneck Poway - they finally got a stop light in the '80's - San Diego is bad enough but you work in the middle of dumbsville.
Remember, There are other people here (like me) who aren't quite as brainwashed as the idgets who voted for Duncan Hunter and his ilk.
Peace------
