The GOP would split if Palin is removed from the ticket |
|
Can you imagine those fundies??!! They'd go apeshit if Palin leaves the ticket! They would totally blame Gramps. It would be a lose-lose situation for him if Palin withdraws. We might start witnessing the total and complete meltdown of the Republican Party. For all the talk of disunity between the Clintons and Obama, that shit pales in comparison to what'll happen if Palin is gone!

5. Yep, McCain the crapshooter had 2 choices |
|
both were longshots and both would have alienated significant portions of his party.
He could have gone with his heart and picked Leiberman or Ridge (pro-choice) and risk the wrath of the "Christian Base"
or he could just revoke his entire life as a "maverick" standing up to the Theo-Cons and go with Palin.
In the end, he satisfied no one, including himself. Pretty damn pathetic.

She would proly carry Alaska and deny those electoral votes to John McCain.

6. McCain is pretty much fucked either way |
|
This troopergate, 527 gate, AIP gate and bridge to nowhere gate shit is not going to go away. She's lawyered up to deal with the state senate investigation of the police chief firing, an army of reporters is now swarming across Alaska to dig up more crap, and its already been demonstrated that she doesn't poll well among anyone but the extreme fund-o-mentalists.
So what can he do? Shit can her and piss off the lunatic fringe, or keep her and pretty much alienate the rest of humanity, that's what. He won't come out of this looking very mavericky IMO.

7. The GOP WILL Split if Palin Remains on the Ticket |
|
Can you imagine those elcted officials who cannot win with a secessionist on the top of their ticket? They would totally blame Gramps and the Religious Right. It would be a lose-lose situation for them if Palin stays. We might start witnessing the total and complete meltdown of the Republican Party. For all the talk of disunity between the Clintons and Obama, that shit pales in comparison to what'll happen if Palin stays!

I think that at the end we are going to find out that it is all a Republican plot to eliminate the Democrats by having us laugh ourselves to death. Monty Python's Funniest Joke in the World: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9XJeL2MNpw

12. that's the biggest story here |
|
mccain didn't choose who he wanted. whatever reason he chose palin, it had more to do with the fact that he does not control his own campaign. if he bows to pressure on his vp pick, then how can he run a country? i mean, there are so many things about this vp pick that raise questions. the lack of vetting. and if she was vetted, what does that say about what mccain wants for the country. this woman is under investigation right now. it's not like she was investigated and cleared of anything. she is in the midst of a controversy. mccain and his people have no evidence that this woman was not involved in the the attempt to fire a former relative. he doesn't have proof she didn't either. so if he isn't going to do the homework on a potential president, how is that 'country first'. this person has the potential to be the most powerful person in this country and the world (some say). yet there was little vetting. how can this man be trusted to do the work necessary before getting us into a conflict with another country? and what does it say about mccain's 'straight talk' and supposed reformer ethics?

13. If she drops out McCain is still screwed with the next choice |
|
If he goes with another woman it will be clear he was just looking for sexual distinction and initially went with good looks and inexperience first, incredibly insulting to the next more legitimate female choice.
If he goes with the "base" he would need to go with Huckabee and then he see once again that he was really just pandering to them all along once he decided he couldn't do it with out their money and turnout. All the moderates split off and stay home or vote Democratic.
If he goes Moderate he's back to loosing the base and looking like even more of an idiot without any kind of internal fixed compass on what he stands for.
So, to me, he's political toast in all scenarios.
And also, as I mentioned before, no one seems to be talking about the other externals of Bob Barr and Ron Paul. Their voters will vote for them regardless, because the Repubs are not giving any other good options.

14. Splitting isn't good enough |
|
A beast that nasty deserves to explode into a million pieces for the birds to carry off. Every form of low-life, from corporate pirates, to klan, to neo-nazis, to wackogelical nutcases, to the pathologically self-centered has gravitated to the GOP. That's all that's left in it. It isn't a political party any more. It's a stinking, festering cesspool that needs to be drained for health and human safety.
In McKook/Palin (aka Ailin' and Failin'), the bastard godchildren of the Bush-Rove machine, it's getting what it richly deserves. Payback's a mutha, idnit.
