From a supposedly highly educated woman....
She's a lawyer (but she does work and live in Kansas) and she's really excited about Palin....

"She's made really great changes in just a short time as governor. It's just a really exciting pick!"

So, if someone could tell me what great changes she's made, that would help me out a lot because I'm not seeing them!

Oh, she also likes to say that people just don't "understand" Conservatives!

I'm so annoyed right now that anyone could be so damn blind!!!!!!

Then again, I'm also 6 days away from having a c-section, so it could be partially hormones making me extra-cranky right now!

Bettie

3. What I think the Repukes mean when they say she was a "reformer"
is that when she took office as Governor, she sold the private jet that Governors previously used and she fired the Governor's private chef and said she could cook her own dinners. Other than that, I don't think there are any other reforms that she imposed. If there are others, I'd like to know.

4. It's not you.
I have been completely annoyed with the women in my family who are excited about Palin. I have decided that I will no longer call or go out of my way to talk with folks who are so ignorant about the future of this country. Best wishes for you and your sweet baby. We will hold the fort down here for you. Peace, Kim

7. And proud I am to be able to make my own choices!
Frankly, that is in poor taste, but I am proud to be part of a party that embraces my RIGHT to control IF and WHEN I CHOOSE to have a baby!

By the way, I expect you'll be gone any moment, so bye!

10. Kansas can be scarily conservative.
I lived there for 18 years, and was constantly made crazy by the conservatism there. They have two Democratic Reps right now, (Nancy Boyda in the second district, and Dennis Moore in the third) but in most states they would be moderate Republicans.

Maybe the think to know about your friend is what church does she attend? There are any number of mega-churches there who don't hesitate to preach from the pulpit about how evil the Democrats are and how the parishioners will surely go to hell if they even think about voting for one.

And even those of us not hormone crazed from pregnancy are feeling bug-shit at the fawning over how wonderful Palin is.

12. I've noticed this phenomenon in this particular woman
She's smart and yet dumb at the same time!

She loves to tell us (a group of women who have an internet group to keep us connected) how great W is and how wonderful crazy Senator Brownback is...

I'm just glad to know its not the hormones!

I'll miss DU when I'm in the hospital though!

16. The bushit years were not "conservative"...they wasted and spent
everything. It's a pity anyone, highly educated or not, can't get past the sound bites when considering someone for a higher office or any elected official to run our country.

Hopefully this woman will investigate beyond superficiality.

14. The Alaskan political scene has been very complicated
and very corrupt for many years. Prior to being governor, Sarah Palin did expose the graft of Randy Ruedrich, the Republican state party chair, and has been pretty spunky with regards to Ted Stevens and Don Young, as well. Given the sorry state of the Republican party in Alaska, I think she earns her reformer chops fairly honestly, but it's too long of a story to go into here. Suffice to say that she was like a breath of fresh air after four years of Frank Murkowski. While many of her social views are undoubtedly far right, she hasn't tried to force them down our throats, which we had feared when she was elected. Mostly she's been about resource development. Surprisingly, most of her more outspoken critics, and the source of some of the more lurid rumors circulating around, have been from the even farther right of her own party. At one time I heard that her popularity rating was higher among Democrats than among Republicans.

There is a serious rift here in the Republican party between the old-line "Corrupt Bastards" (Ruedrich, Stevens, and the guys who are sitting in prison, among others) and the reformist Palinistas. She pushed through legislation to raise taxes on the oil companies, causing some heads to explode, and because of the increased revenue to the state was able to get an additional $1200 added onto our permanent fund dividends to defray energy costs which are astronomical here. That was done before all this vice president stuff came up, so I don't think it was intended to sway support to McCain, but was done out of genuine concern for especially the rural people here, who are taking it up the a** when it comes to fuel costs.

So she is a mixed bag. I personally think that she should have told McCain no thanks and finished out her term here as one of the most popular governors in Alaska history. People down south really don't understand Alaskans, and Sarah is Alaskan to the core.

15. without using palins name.... for every woman you discuss, use the plane episode
about 18 and half hours without medical care. on a plane with no medical accessibility. 44 yr old high risk preg. special needs child. month premature.

put in a life death situation with own child, palin chose worng. bad judgment. as pres she would be making those decisions for us

women will be appalled.

i know some think it should be about her governing, but this will hit women. the irresponsibility of it. not a single woman would walk AWAY from medical care

22. I did mention this to her, especially since she and I met
through a support group for pregnancy/neo-natal loss.

She says that I, as a SAHM, just don't understand how important it is to working mothers to be just as tough as men and she respects her for not allowing her pregnancy to impact her job.

Of course, she's also trying to turn her shy, quiet son into what she calls a "type A" personality by forcing him into activities he hates to make him more of a 'manly' little boy. So, I guess I should probably give up on her, eh?

21. Thanks!
This baby was an unexpected surprise (shock). I'm 42 and have two boys already, ages 6 and 7, so this little guy (third boy) will be my last....I'm making sure of THAT!

I'm looking forward to him though, one last moment of being the mom of a baby.

23. First--congratulations--been there and done the c-section route twice.
Take your time after the baby is born--don't try to pull a Palin!

Second--send this info from a resident of Palin's hometown--Wasilla-regarding
all of Palin's reforms.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=6880553&mesg_id=6880553

Take special notice of the fact that Repubs in Alaska
have said no one--yes, no one--was contacted by the McCain campaign to vet Governor
Palin. That means that only one point of view is being presented about her.

Good luck!
