Bush Resorts To "Push Polling" Again
From Sunday's The Oregonian:

Bush Resorting to "Push Polling" Again

Sunday, August 29, 2004

The U.S. public deserves an honest answer.

Bush backers' scare tactics

A representative of the Bush campaign called recently, asking if she could count on me to vote for him in November. I am a registered independent voter.

After a short, respectful discussion, she asked if I knew that Kerry had had cancer. She added that a patient is not truly a "cancer survivor" until one is cancer-free for five years.

The message was clear: I should not vote for Kerry for fear that he will have a recurrence while in office. A February 2003 Reuters article noted that after surgery to remove his prostate, Kerry's doctor gave him a 95 percent chance of being cancer-free in 10 years.

This is another excellent example of the scare tactics used by the Bush administration and its supporters. Thank you, caller, for reinforcing my conviction that I will not vote for an administration that deliberately instills fear among its constituents for political gain.

My view?...Someone should start talking about the statistics of how often Alcoholics Relapse.

1. Wow...
That's really desperate. Maybe you should have said that you were afraid to vote for Bush due to the liklihood of him choking on another pretzel.

:)

3. Uh. Excuse me?

Alcoholics relapse. It's part of the disease. I say that as someone with a hell of a lot of experience dealing with them. I think if you're going to factor one man's prostate cancer into the mix, you should also factor in that the other man has an admitted alcohol problem.

9. Sorry, I didn't present myself well there
The "Don't vote for Kerry because he had cancer" position they were shovelling was what I was referring to as desperate.

12. Gotcha. No problem.

Anyway, another big difference between the Kerry Ticket and the Bush ticket is the man in the number 2 spot. I would be very comfortable with John Edwards as President.

2. But a heart condition NEVER goes away!
How many people believe Cheney is really running the show? I've had Pubs tell me they are surprised that he survived the first 4 years!

Oh yea, then there's that little problem of a possible mental disorder with the Pres, huh?

8. Well by ommission are they admitting that Cheney doesn't have a heart?
Or do we just call him Crashcart because he is so good at running down libruls with a Rascal?

16. Kerry can be cancer free in ten years? Then there's no problem
We'd need him for only EIGHT years, and even then, I think it's safe to assume that Edwards's heart is in better shape than Cheney's!

4. You should take that to the media blaster because they certainly
don't check out the local papers for news so send it out to everybody.

Last week, they kept talking about the SBV Liars as if they were completely unaware of a bunch of the local stories by the guys that were actually eye witnesses.

13. I'm going to have to play around with that media blaster deal...
When I checked earlier, it didn't have any major N. CA press outlets in it's database. When I have a little more time I will input some of that info.

Interesting....

Did you know that Bush was a dick head. Scientific evidence shows that once a dick head, the dick headedness status remains with one well into their 80s.

14. Q: "If you knew Bush were drinking heavily again, would you
be more or less likely to vote for him in November?"

Or:

Q: "If you knew Bush were beating his wife, would you be more or less likely to vote for him in November?"

15. You should have said, "I'm a lot more concerned about Mr. Bush's health.

I can only hope that his chronic inarticulateness is NOT due to a substance problem. And according to some friends of mine who work in the psychiatric field, he exhibits many symptoms of having a narcissitic personality disorder."

1. has a grandiose sense of self-importance (e.g., exaggerates achievements and talents, expects to be recognized as superior without commensurate achievements)

2. is preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love

3. believes that he or she is "special" and unique and can only be understood by, or should associate with, other special or high-status people (or institutions)

4. requires excessive admiration

5. has a sense of entitlement, i.e., unreasonable expectations of especially favorable treatment or automatic compliance with his or her expectations

6. is interpersonally exploitative, i.e., takes advantage of others to achieve his or her own ends (with no regard of the consequences--"lives in the moment.")

7. lacks empathy: is unwilling to recognize or identify with the feelings and needs of others

8. is often envious of others or believes that others are envious of him or her

9. shows arrogant, haughty behaviors or attitudes

17. Did your post get edited? I didn't see the first letter (I typed it here)
The first letter (the one right before the one you posted) was "Media Silent on Kerry's Cancer".

I won't post the entire LTTE, but the last two paragraphs read like this:

"Before too long, Kerry should be asked the following question during a prime-time TV appearance: "In this time when the United States faces and extended war against terror, is the nation best served by a president who has not so long ago been a victim of cancer?"

The U.S. public deserves an honest answer."

It really was a perfect juxtaposition of LTTEs. First, the new Bush talking point, then the proof of the new Bush talking point.

18. Don't vote for Kerry, he has cancer? Will that be the next Swift Smear?
Someone should make sure the Kerry campaign knows about these calls.

19. McCain had cancer too
maybe Johnny AZ can weigh in on this too.
As for the Kerry people returning the favor, perhaps they can talk about George possibly being a bin Laden/Saud family member in good standing or someting else equally suspicion-inducing and grounded in reality as this is.

"That's ok - I'm not worried. I mean, it's not like he would have Dick Cheney for a Vice president or anything"
