11. a tip for getting close at a rally/rope line: take a kid
I took my son out of school when he was 9 to see Clinton. Crowd was huge, it was just a stop at the airport. I thought we'd never get close enough to see him. Then the sea opened up with comments like "let the little boy through" and they let us to the very front of the crowd!

I was reminded of when my Aunts took me to see JFK when I was 9. I made me realize why they'd taken me. I was the ticket to the front row.

Helpful hints from a political junkie.
