Reading between the lines, Palin probably semi-lied to McCain about her daughter
My sense of things (and nothing more than that) deduced from the mosh of information and rumor out there...

Palin told team McCain about Bristol on Wednesday, which was the first they knew of it.

I suspect she sold the news as, "My oldest daughter is pregnant, but she and her fiancee are getting married next week."

Bristol almost certainly didn't know she was supposedly getting married next week. In fact, she didn't even know why she was in Ohio! (They told the kids they were traveling to a family anniversary party.)

Palin gets the VP nod and then tells Bristol the "happy news" about her upcoming nuptials.

Bristol says no, she has no intention of getting married next week. D'oh!

Gee, "we would have had a wedding this week, had to cancel the cake, and the hall, and the reverend because my country was calling me." Could that mean that she cancelled her daughters fairy tale wedding, the one she dreamed about her whole life, so she could run for vp?
