My Reasons for believing that Sarah Palin(comparison) will give a very good speech tonight.
Before the flamethrowers come out, I hope I'm wrong. I frankly wouldn't be totally surprised if she fell flat on her face, and I'd HARDLY be disappointed.

BUT...

1. Sarah Palin(comparison) is a FANATIC and an extremest. As such, she speaks with all of the self-righteous assuredness of one who is so afflicted.

2. Obviously, the rovians who are now running the McSame campaign are INTENSIVELY working with her, probably in one of dick cheney's "undisclosed locations". They know that they made a catastrophic pick. They know that they didn't vet her nearly enough (or at all it seems). They have been sending the talking heads out with the same talking points to "put lipstick on the pig" since the pick was made. All of this aside, she will have been rehearsed to the nth degree and will be prepared for her big moment.

3. By all reports, she is a fairly good speaker. She was certainly able to read from a teleprompter in her former career as a sportscaster. I doubt that McSame's handlers would put a SECOND crappy speaker on the ticket.

4. Much of the media has has probably already written their reviews of how she exceeded expectations. There will almost certainly be others who will be swayed by the McSame Stepfords in the delegation.

However, Sarah Palin(comparison) WILL stick her foot in her mouth sometime in the next 62 days. As a fanatic and an extremest, she just won't be able to help it. One unfailing thing about the extreme right, they always fall into the trap of thinking that everybody thinks exactly as they do, even on their most ludicrous positions. This will provide ample opportunity for the Obama campaign to ram the issue of judgment down McSame's throat.

That's my $.02 prediction.

PEACE!

1. 5. Not high expectations. All she has to do is get through the speech and
make everyone feel good, and it will be deemed "successful". Not good oratory, mind you, but good enough to count by their standards.

2. Good enough to count.
Isn't it sad that THAT is what republicans aspire to these days?

3. She'll be reading
another speech written by McShame's writers as she did the other nite..Don't forget, Rove selected her because I read an article that said his choice was Ridge or Lieberman, and that didn't set well with Rove..McShame must obey his masters. Being the mouthy person she is, she will write a few things she wants also, but rest assure, the bulk of the speech will be written for her. She's a great actress, knows the moves as if she's won another pageant. Let her have her 15min of fame because there's more coming..

'October Surprise' Over Palin Investigation?

"Likely Damaging" Report on Governor Scheduled for Release Days Before November Election

Is the McCain campaign afraid of an 'October surprise' involving vice-presidential pick Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska? The Alaska state senator running an investigation of Gov. Palin says the McCain campaign is using stall tactics to prevent him from releasing his final report by Oct. 31, four days before the November election. "It's likely to be damaging to the Governor's administration," said Senator Hollis French, a Democrat, appointed the project manager for a bi-partisan State Senate...

9. He Wanted to pick ridge or lieberman.
Another sign that this "leader" can't stand up to the extreme right lunatic fringe of his party. What a "maverick"!

BTW, Where in PA. My family and I moved to Maine 6+ years ago from Delaware County, just outside of Philly.

4. I wanna hear her brag about her beauty pageant and PTA experience.
And how having 5 kids makes her qualified to be the leader of the free world.

18. Well, hell,
Fred Thompson made sure in his speech to brag that McCain dated a stripper.

The qualifications on the other side seem to be a little different than on ours.

5. She'll do "well enough"
She won't blow anyone's socks off, but she will be personable and likeable and clear with her conservative vision and the right will PRETEND she blew their socks off. She won't fall on her face, I'm sure of that.

She's a decent speaker, she's an intelligent woman, and she has a likeability about her when she does talk.

She is no Obama though, she's not going to make anyone tear up or inspire anyone to hope for greater things for this country. She'll just be "well enough".

Be prepared to rebut "well enough" without throwing up in your mouth a little though, because the right is going to try to turn her speech into the stuff of legend even though it will be far short of that.

12. If she recites the ABCs with 23 letters...
...the right will praise her and sing glory to her as a reformer.

It's the 3-4 weeks after the convention that will test her.

11. No problem with a teleprompter? Watch this clip
I know it was a long time ago but it seems to me she trips over the teleprompter repeatedly throughout the sportscast.

15. All she has to do is read what's put in front of her.
She's already shown she can do that.

She'll fire up the fundies. I'll bet it won't take long before the other 70% of Americans see through the pig's lipstick and conclude she's batshit insane...

I hope that Joe Biden is a perfect gentleman (as he most often is) in their debate and lets her hang herself.

21. However,...
...I think that there are some who have been either playing the "lower expectations" game OR expecting her to be awful tonight.

On substance (if they let her cover any which is doubtful), she will be awful. On style I expect her to be pretty good because, yes, she is a politician. bush & McSame notwithstanding, most politicians are decent speakers.
