I don't understand why the McCain camp is blaming the media for this mess
I really really don't get it. I can usually see at least a sliver of truth somewhere when people complain about the media, but how is the MSM hellbent on destroying Sarah Palin like every GOP talking head on TV is saying?

That's all they've said. They give no examples.

Is reporting on serious allegations about a person that hardly anyone in the country knew existed REALLY evidence that they're out to get her?

Please, I really want someone to point out something that the media has done in reporting on Sarah Palin that has been unfair. It's her own fucking fault that she's done what seems like literally 100 fucking stupid things for them to report on, not the media's.

1. The problem isn't the serious allegations. It's the moronic ones about baby-switching
Because of all the panting attention to the teenaged sex angle, no one feels like they have to talk about illegal firings, pork barrel corruption, and anti-abortion extremism.

That never went mainstream.

13. The baby switching stuff?
Where was that seriously reported on the news other than to BASH the people talking about it on sites like this one? There was never a serious report on it on any of the networks.

15. YES, they were talking about it today on MSNBC..
Edited on Wed Sep-03-08 07:08 PM by 1corona4u
they were saying that the REASON this whole media frenzy started was because of the allegations of the baby switching...which in turn made the media start digging for other things....it's out there, regardless of how it got out there.

2. 2 reasons, 1, that way none of them over in Camp Grumpy fuck have to talk about actual real issues
and 2, they think if they start attacking the media you will be less likely to believe any of the stuff that comes out on Palin.

3. They asked questions
they are picking up pieces from sources from the net to folks in her home town and calling McCain and Palins people to ask about it...how dare they~!

maybe they should just report it all without checking

4. Here's the problem
they aren't kissing their butts over this. There is no genuine love of this pick and McCain is pissed, now he can feel the pain that he helped put Kerry through.

The media needs to grow a pair and stop pandering to either party and just present the facts, like they used to in the olden days.

6. McCain Camp can't blame themselves for fucking up the Vetting process
They fucked up and now they have to lay the blame at the media's feet to save any kind of face with the voters.

7. The Best Defense Is A Good Offense.......
that's all that's going on here. They didn't do a good job vetting this lady and they are paying for it. So the best way to defend their position is thrust the blame on someone else. So - the 'liberal media' always the whipping boy for the Repugs - gets to shoulder this burden.

I would just warn the Repugs not to push the media too hard as they might turn on them. If the media smells a Dem victory - they can turn on a flash and really come down hard on McCain/Palin. Up to now it is only us here on the internet that have been doing the digging of dirt on Palin - but if they piss of the media - the media can turn up the heat instantly.

I just think it is funny - on camera - the Repug talking heads are towing the party talking points - but on the other side of the microphone - they are questioning the sanity of the moves.

Seems like the foundations are falling.

23. You and I think alike
I think that's EXACTLY what's happening.

I think McCain is playing with fire here. If he pushes this, he loses, big time.

The only reason McCain made it this far is because of his fabled "media base". But he should realize that it's a kingdom built with sand.

Any transgression of the "rules" and he's TOAST.

The foundations ARE indeed falling.

They announced her candidacy on Friday.

They dumped all the bad news about her on Labor Day - when no one is paying attention.

The spin cycle runs it's course on the internets and in the media, blah, blah, blah.

They play it up a little bit at the beginning of the convention.

Now she's a victim of all the bad talk about her.

Now she gets to pontificate about how she was wronged by the Washington D.C. establishment and she'll do right by those in their living room - outside of the beltway.

This is a classic professional job. It's how it's done.

It is what it is.

12. they're using Bristol's pregnancy as a straw man
to cover up the fact that all of her marketing points (bridge to nowhere, earmarks, etc) are being debunked one after another. Even Norah O'Donnell, Bush apologizer, was pissed about it tonight and kind of smacked down Pat when he tried to play the "the media is at war with this woman!" card.

19. Gee, that wasn't hard to predict.
What did you think they were gonna talk about... the issues?

The main reason Obama said "the kids are off limits" was that it gives the Republicans an opening to change the subject.
A small share of the blame has to go to the knuckleheads here who thought they were "fighting fire with fire" by spreading ridiculous rumors.

14. it started with a press release from Mcain campaign
If you present biography in a positive light, you've got to accept(even expect) less positive aspects of that same biography to be brought to light.
You can't say its an attack unless it comes from us on our terms.

This story did not come from the new york times or the washington post, it came from the Mcain Campaign.

And who knew that republicans were so sensitive about "unfounded rumors on the internet"?
Obama must be doing a jig of glee.

So they have nobody else but to blame except for the media.

20. Look at what Palin said about vetting and the media

"When I hear a statement like that coming from a woman candidate with any kind of perceived whine about that excess criticism or, you know, maybe a sharper microscope put on her, I think, man, that doesn't do us any good. Women in politics, women in general wanting to progress this country. I don't think it's, it bodes well for her -- a statement like that."

22. The Pick Invited Heightened Scrutiny...
Had be picked known commodities like Romney or Pawlenty, the media would have felt that they knew these candidates well enough, and there wouldn't have been so much rooting through their past.

Palin, a neophyte completely from left field, was a picked designed to attract attention. And with attention comes the scrutiny that followed. It's not the media's fault (or anybody else's) that they chose a candidate who could stand up to the light of day.

24. How is it possible to ask too many questions about a potential VP?
The media hasn't asked even half the questions I would ask, just based on my brief visits to DU and the posts I read.

Maybe the Republicans should just go ahead and nominate a hooded candidate who never emerges from the shadows and has their voice disguised. The party bosses would tell their drooling toothless followers to just trust them and vote GOP.

Another odd thing is that, at the snap of the fingers, every Republican talking ass seems to be on the same message, with the same talking points, parroting the same lines, such as the ridiculous claim that the media is now biased against Palin. As one, they seemed to make this claim at the same time. Their group mind or hive behavior is just one more reason why I hate them and could never vote Republican.
