I don't think it's unreasonable at all to say that being a community organizer in Chicago... |
|
..was harder work and worth more experience than being the mayor of Wasilla, Alaska.

4. This is the argument that homemakers found hard to make, when comparing their "jobs" with |
|
the "jobs" that women working outside the home had.
The difference is money. When you have a "job" for which you are paid, it is very different from a voluntary position where you are not paid. Both have responsibilities and duties, but it is VERY different when you're paid. You are scrutinized more, you have to answer more to others, you are evaluated, you are usually held to certain standards, and you usu. have certain goals you have to meet. You are also at risk of being fired at any time.
When you volunteer for a position but are not paid, or when you have a "job" because you and the people love each other....you are less likely to be fired, as such; you don't have rigorous standards; people can and will let things slide that an employer won't; you have more freedom to do what suits you rather than what suits "the boss"; etc.
Both jobs are important. Both have duties and responsibilities. But they ARE different.
