1. So were Pat Robertson and Farrakhan, John Brown, etc.
It's such a broad term it means very little.

Obama should specifically refer to helping laid off auto workers. THAT means something, "community organizer" doesn't mean jack shit.

2. i can see the ad now
Talking about the community organizers like Susan B. Anthony and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. And the long American tradition of Community Organizers.

They fucked up HUGE mocking community organizers.

The fact is, though, I bet the speech writers and the speech readers have no clue what community organizers do.

4. Nominated.
I am completing an essay on community organizers which, by no coincidence, mentions Malcolm and Martin. I'll be posting it soon.

5. I Lack The Intellectual Discipline To Expand On My Thoughts
I have been ambivalent about this election though voting anything other than Democratic has never really been an option but Palin's assault on my values and her diminishment of Obama's accomplishments really has me piqued...There is really no secret to the GOP's strategy...They have been using it successfully since 1988 with only one pause; the Clinton years, and that strategy is making their opponent seem alien...

BTW, I heard Muhammad Ali was in Denver for Obama's speech...Lonnie Said he wanted to be part of history...

I will be beyond disappointed if the bad guys win again...

Maybe that's why I remain enamored of Muhammad Ali...He usually emerged victorious from his battles with the forces of reaction; in and outside of the ring...

7. I think that
your post follows Malcolm's advice to community organizers: "Make it simple." There is a real power in keeping a message simple, and easy for everyone to understand, in a manner that it expands their thinking. (That is an area where I am too often lacking! Being part Irish is a curse, when it comes to keeping messages short.)

I posted my essay on GD, and hope to follow up on it this afternoon. But in a few minutes, I have to get my wife to yet another unscheduled medical appointment. My life is not simple right now.

6. The most revealing thing about the Republicans' mindset was revealed.
It's tangental to Giuliani's and Palin's slam on Obama's experience as a community organizer, so bear with me here.

What bothered me most about their speeches was how they played up Palin's executive leadership and business background over the Democratic ticket. Of course, the crowd went wild each time the point was made, but perhaps the delegates in St. Paul should step back a moment and assess what is really being said.

According to Giuliani and Palin, the only people qualified to hold political office are the chosen few who have executive experience. In their world view, Mr. Smith doesn't go to Washington. In their world view, Mr. Smith can't bring kitchen table issues to the halls of power. In their world view, Mr. Smith had just better STFU if he knows what's good for him, because those with executive experience will bring the smack down on him if he dares to dissent.

If Mr. Smith's experience empowering those in his community is so devalued as a leadership quality, who are really the elitists, dear Republicans?
