Something that really nails Palin's speech... |
|
Edited on Thu Sep-04-08 10:11 AM by TwoSparkles
I'm sorry I don't remember the pundit's name, who made this remark on "Morning Joe" this morning. However, it's really worth repeating.
The pundit said that at the end of the speech, she was waiting for Palin to say, "Live from New York...it's Saturday niiiiiight!"
Isn't that just perfect? Yes, Palin was funny. Yes, she was cute, and she did give a good speech. She's charming and she's a good speaker.
However, the tone and tenor of her speech--including all of the sardonic remarks, snide mocking and passive-aggressive insults and quips--was not vice-presidential material. While plucky and spicy--Palin's behavior certainly wasn't becoming of someone who will be a global leader.
She would be a great talk-show host or a very successful motivational speaker--but I cannot envision her a heartbeat away from the Presidency--being taken seriously with world leaders on matters of war, nuclear proliferation, global trade, foreign policy or US economic or monetary policy.

or a really bad comedy sketch. Like some others, I need to pinch myself to make sure I'm awake. Then again, maybe I shouldn't. I'd almost prefer to think that this is a really bad dream and I'll wake up eventually.

Witness "Dr." Laura and "Dr." Phil. Witness "President" bush.
People are willing to accept mediocrity in every phase of life. And they don't see the consequences to themselves of accepting it.

This speech was prepared by McCain and his handlers before a VP nom was even chosen. It's typical McCain--snarky, sophomoric, angry. This is the way this team will proceed--small-minded, evasive about real issues (his handler said issues don't matter), petulant--as evidenced by the attacks on the media for not adoring everything about McCain. I'm beginning to dislike McCain even more than I dislike Bush.
