one-line Biden lowers expectations in upcoming debate against Palin
Posted: 11:35 AM ET

From CNN's Rachel Streitfeld
Sen. Biden said Thursday that Republicans are distorting Sen. Obama's record.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia (CNN) — Joe Biden warned supporters Thursday not to expect him to unleash “one-line zingers” in his debates with GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin — even if she does.

“I will be unrelenting in my debate with governor, the governor of Alaska in terms of the positions she has taken,” Biden said. “But I will not do what she is able to do so well, and many others–not bad. I am not good at the one-line zingers that go at, you know, that’s not my deal. So if that is going to be the measure of how these debates go, then I’m not going to do very well.”

Palin attacked the Democratic ticket in her speech to the Republican National Convention Wednesday, belittling Obama’s experience and charging he cares more about his career than about achieving victory in Iraq.

Biden broadly condemned “distortions” from Republican opponents at a campaign event Thursday, but took only a veiled swipe at Palin.

seeing distortions from opponents — this thing of 'country first,' this awful line about Barack Obama being more concerned about his career than winning a war,” Biden said. “I thought we were beyond that.”

1. I don't think this is Biden lower expectations. He's elevating the debate to the issues.
I, for one, look forward to it.

2. She's only good at zingers if someone else writes them for her...
...and posts them on a teleprompter.

Hell, she's a former TV sportcaster, so of course she's good at reading a script. But she's never before debated issues other than those specific to Alaska.

She's got one hell of a crash course ahead of her to become conversant on the very issues that Joe B is an expert in.

3. I hope that you are only...
being facetious, or serpentining a scheme, Joe.

Because after these conventions and all the razzle dazzle is over, is when the REAL fighting is going to start.

I have my donation card sitting next to me and I am watching. Don't worry!

7. Our friend Biden is a tiger crouching in the tall grass.
this is what she's up against. And she is NOT or ever will be ready for that tiger!

8. Kill her softly.

It's our only way. If the Dems get into the mud with the Reps, we'll be crucified. We need to do what Clinton did in 1992 and just run your mantra over and over and do not get curtailed from your agenda.

This plan Obama and Biden are using may not be exactly what we'd like to see, but it may be the most practical.

9. Anyone else think Joe will try to confuse her with his knowledge of the issues
and then she'll just say some one-liner that gets big applause? We know Palin isn't as versed as Joe, so Joe might think that they can knock her off balance by getting into complicated areas that she has admittedly never paid attention to. The problem is, as Obama said, it's like these people are proud of being ignorant. She'll just say "I think the American people want REAL change" and Joe will be left scratching his head.

11. I would love to see the moderator give them two blank labeled maps of the middle east and then
have them wirte in the proper names of the countries on the map. Then compare Biden's map to Palin's map. I think the visual result would be staggering and end the debate right there.
