IMO GOP Plan for Palin: Less political media More "lifestlye" media, |
|
Just going from their first media granted interview of Palin, and from her consistent avoidance of political media, I think the plan is for them to put more of her in People, The View(Hasselbeck will be her new BFF), and the like, and less on Meet the press, face the nation etc.. They are going to try and play to what they think her "strengths" to be as her "similar but different" biography.
Someone who cooks for her family, but shoots and kills mooses to do it! A member of a small town, but a small town in the middle of the Alaskan tundra, someone who is the bread winner of the family and powerful, while all the while balancing family on top of that(again how I think only the repukes will frame it). The key thing for the rethugs will be to keep a focus on her lifestory and foment an uncritical curiosity towards her. In the meanwhile they will coach her up to the gills to perform at the few times where she HAS to show up politically (i.e. the V.P. debate)
They're counting on intense interest coupled with low expectations and perhaps sympathy to give her a net benefit from the debate. I won't go into hand wringning and say that this will definitely work, but I wanted to point out that while I think she'll be largely shunted from the political press, it doesn't necessarily mean that her EXPOSURE to the public will be reduced, and I don't think it's clear from now at least whether this strategy will be a net positive or net negative for their campaign. Of course I hope it's the latter
