"US Weekly" loses 1000 subscribers after Palin cover story "Babies, Lies and Scandals"

So this is interesting. US WEEKLY is losing subscribers because of it's Sarah Palin cover story, "Babies, Lies and Scandals."

There were reports as many as 10,000 subscribers bailed, but US told Page Six the number was closer to 1,000. Apparently the mag -- and to be fair just about everyone else in the media -- misjudged Palin's impact once she opened her mouth.

We put some polls up yesterday. With 200,000 votes, 51% called Palin the biggest star of the convention. Obama came in second with 45%. McCain got 3% and Biden 1%.

We also asked who you'd most like to have a beer with -- 43% Palin, 28% Obama, 16% McCain and 13% Biden.

1. I bet they sold more over the counter than they lost in subscriptions

2. There are a lot of people I would like to have a beer with but
none of them are qualified to be president. Why would any man want to have a beer with her except to get her drunk. I don't think I know of any woman who would want to have a beer with her. All of the women I know would rather have a beer with a man and Obama would be the favorite.

4. Which might be a sign that we need to focus on issues,
not on gossip. But only if we want to win, of course.

6. Palin supporters are immune to the rational talk about issues.....
because they come from the groups described in this article. With Palin supporters, gossip will have a bigger effect than logic, unfortunately.

5. They apparently also got 1000 more subscriptions so it's actually a wash
This is also only counting the subscription numbers. Plenty of people don't have subscriptions and simply buy the magazine. It's probably a more accurate count if you count the number of subscriptions and the number of issues sold and then compare them to previous months to see if the Palin cover was either a success or a dud for US Weekly.

on a monthly basis.

9. Funny how the article didn't emphasize that part.

12. Yes, the tendency of the news to emphasize the negative as normal
and the positive as special "human interest" segments underlines the cynicism that is bred into the news media. We as citizens who need to stay informed have to go that extra yard that the news media has given up. Probably why Internet usage when it comes to looking for news has so outpaced the current MSM.

7. Repukes *love* sleeze until it involves one of their own.
The hypocrisy I'm seeing from repukes during this campaign is stunning.

10. I don't understand the "who would you most like to have a beer with" questions.
I don't vote for people based on whether I'd like to have a beer with them (though certainly I'd rather take ANY refreshment with Barack Obama and Joe Biden before either member of the other ticket).

They lost 1000, but gained 1000 back. It was a complete wash

14. "Closer to 1000." Well, 5000 is closer to 1000 than it is to 10000.
So, perhaps the correct number was 5000.
