Obama to Stephanopoulos: Palin more Bush-Cheney than McCain
Obama to Stephanopoulos: Palin more Bush-Cheney than McCain
September 06, 2008 5:09 PM

ABC News' George Stephanopoulos Reports: Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin is a "skilled politician," but the country doesn't know much about her yet, said Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., in an interview that will air tomorrow exclusively on "This Week."

Stephanopolous_4 But Obama refused to say Palin is qualified to be president, and claimed that picking Palin brings Republican presidential nominee John McCain closer to President Bush.

"He chose somebody who may be even more aligned with George Bush – or Dick Cheney, or the politics we’ve seen over the last eight years – than John McCain himself is," said Obama.

In a poll conducted by ABC News and released yesterday, half of Americans said they have a favorable first impression of Palin. That number rises to 85 percent of Republicans and 53 percent of independents.

"She wouldn't be governor of Alaska if she wasn't a skilled politician, and I think her performance at the convention showed what a skilled politician she is," said Obama.

1. This is a good way to start defining her. Keep pointing out she is just like Bush and Cheney. nt

2. The best part is that the Repukes can't even refute it directly
"How dare Obama falsely accuse Governor Palin of being like... the current leaders of our party."

Really, McCain's only hope is to go out there and openly denounce Bush. That was his only hope from the start. But it's far too late.

3. Also, calling her a "skilled politician" is a back-handed compliment.

He's effectively saying that she can talk her way into office, but not necessarily govern effectively.

It also underscores her recent superficial "success": Just empty words.

7. It's very good.
And as been said before, they can't refute the "she's not like Bush/Cheney" without slamming the leaders of their own party.

It is quite good. :-)

8. You nailed it
People really don't like politicians. You paint her as a "Skilled Bush-Cheney Politician" is not very good for her.

I love that choice of words.

10. Great points. Also a "skilled politician" implies business as usual
and contradicts McCain campaign attempts to paint themselves as the true agents of change.

16. Better than fresh faced 'reformer'
which is what McCain wants her to be seen as.

she's the Rove/Cheney pick to replace Bush - another easily manipulated dimwit. McCain is just a placeholder.

12. I hope the voters take note that Obama is sitting down with Stephanopoulos after
George's deplorable gotcha performance at the final primary debate. Contrast this to McCain who is pouting and refusing to go on CNN because Campbell Brown dared to ask some tough questions.

13. Don't forget the Bush-Palin God connection.
They both think they are on a great mission for God. War in
the mid east is a noble aspiration, as far as they are
concerned.
Forget the fact that our troops are being eliminated one by
one.

14. Palin is a Bush/McCain triplet! I am totally with Obama on this one!
When I read this article from a woman who knows Palin well it was scary how the woman does business just like W and his cohorts! No wonder McCain picked her! She is a Bush/McCain triplet! And by the way you will read that the man she tried to get rid of wasn't the first person she tried to get fired! That other person was the librarian at the local library that refused to remove books that Palin didn't want to be in the library but the community stood up for her and Palin backed down!

Everyone should read this - Snopes.com says it is true:

Remember Anne Kilkenny's name! I plan on telling Ms. Palin that Anne sent me an e-mail about her and watch her face twist!
