Obama Doesn't Sweat. He should.

Listen to the report on the Air America Radio's Thom Hartmann

In swing-state Colorado, the Republican Secretary of State conducted the biggest purge of voters in history, dumping a fifth of all registrations. Guess their color.

In swing-state Florida, the state is refusing to accept about 85,000 new registrations from voter drives – overwhelming Black voters.

In swing state New Mexico, HALF of the Democrats of Mora, a dirt poor and overwhelmingly Hispanic county, found their registrations disappeared this year, courtesy of a Republican voting contractor.

In swing states Ohio and Nevada, new federal law is knocking out tens of thousands of voters who lost their homes to foreclosure.

My investigations partner spoke directly to Barack Obama about it. (When your partner is Robert F. Kennedy Jr., candidates take your phone call.) The cool, cool Senator Obama told Kennedy he was “concerned” about the integrity of the vote in the Southwest in particular.

He’s concerned. I’m sweating.

It’s time SOMEBODY raised the alarm about these missing voters; not to save Obama’s candidacy – journalists should stay the heck away from partisan endorsements - but raise the alarm to save our sick democracy.

1. We most definitely do. Send it to O and hopefully he can get a few of his groups
mobilized down there. I'm in NYC. Anyone here from those states should volunteer if they haven't.

2. Obama taught voter suppression in his Constitutional law class -- he knows the scoop.
As for not sweating, I am glad he's the kind of candidate that doesn't. I trust that his campaign is doing their best,
including creating a lawyer corps to fight this type of stuff.

There's not much we, his ground troops, can do except to make sure voter registrations are filled out properly and
filed on time.

3. This is the way of a dictatorship...
and those in power will do little to remedy the situation. Feet to the fire time.

4. In Ohio,
a new state law says that for seven days (Sept. 30 to Oct. 6), residents can register and vote in the same day. On Sept. 5, notices went out to people who registered. If the notices come back, then that person is dropped from the voter roles. All that needs to be done is to get the list of returned mail (through FOIA) and go out and get those people back. The Obama campaign already is doing this in one county. I have no doubt they will do it in all counties.

In my opinion, public service announcements need to be made to tell people they need to change their address with the Board of Elections when they move. Enough is not being done to educate people.

I can't speak for the other states but would like to know why the registrations in Florida weren't accepted. New Mexico is run by a Democrat, what is the story with the Republican voting contractor?

I read these posts on DU all of the time and never read about any solutions to the problems. The solutions may be being implemented, but it seems we never hear of them.

5. Question
I have been extremely concerned about how the Republicans are going to cheat during this election.

What exactly is being done to prevent the election from being stolen?

Have lawsuits been filed? Are there organizers on the ground verifying registrations?

6. We in Ohio have a new Secretary of State replacing Ken Blackwell
She is working very hard and is very brave in trying to make our votes actually count this time. Here is her website, take a look around.

7. The DNC needs to do radio ads in these states
targeted to the demo/format in am and pm drive time. Saturate the markets affected and let people know. It is not hard to put together a 30-second radio ad and get it on the air.
