Church faithful are certain Palin has God on her side

When Elaine Colianni caught her first glimpse of Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin on television last week, her reaction was immediate and intense.

"My husband and I said the same thing: 'That woman knows the Lord,' " said Colianni, a volunteer bookkeeper and acting secretary at First Assembly of God Church in Butler. "It was her mannerism, her speech and the clarity of what she was saying. She wasn't mincing any words."

Colianni is one of roughly 30,000 New Jerseyans who belong to the Assemblies of God, a conservative, Pentecostal denomination that Palin was part of from the time she was a teenager until her late 30s.
