Newsflash: HAND WRINGING WON'T WIN THIS ELECTION.
Edited on Sun Sep-07-08 02:55 PM by renie408
I am concerned about this election. As the mother of two young, bright and hopeful children, I think I clearly understand what is at stake if another corporate/GOP shill gets into the White House. I will be devastated if McCain wins. I worry when I see poll numbers which seem to imply that the country is buying the McCain/Palin 'forget issues, it's all about personality' schtick. I also wonder if Obama/Biden should attack more...attack less...discuss issues...discuss personality...I remember '04 and I distinctly remember BOTH my husband and myself sitting up in bed at about 2 in the morning in tears when we realized that SOMEHOW...we had lost. I am scared, too.

But handwringing and angst don't get anything done. Worry doesn't accomplish much. And sitting back and pointing fingers and saying "I told you so" before the election is actually lost really does just piss people off. We have 58 (right? 58?) days to show Americans what a Barack Obama presidency will mean to them.

Here are some proactive things you can do if you are really worried about Barack Obama's campaign:

1) Donate.
2) Donate.
3) Donate. Donating money is the most important thing we can do. With enough money, Obama can force McCain to spread himself thin. Also, donation numbers are a way to 'keep score' on who is getting their message across.
4) Join the Obama website and find out if there are any events in your area. They are holding a rally about two hours from here on October 1st. My husband and I are planning to take the kids out of school and the day off from work and we are heading to Greenville.
5) Get yourself a bumper sticker...and a button...and a step in sign. Let people know who you support.
6) Commit yourself to helping recruit voters.
7) Hold a get together.
8) Stand on a street corner with a sign (or several) explaining why you think McCain sucks and Obama doesn't
9) Write your local paper.
10) Write to both national and local TV news

I am sure that there are lots more things that people can think of to add to this list. But the one thing you SHOULDN'T do is whine. Whining doesn't help Obama and makes you look ineffective.

Worried? Get to work.
