Dear Stupid Assholes
Nobody on this board works closely with the strategists of the Obama campaign. Nobody. If somebody tells you that they do, they're lying. So, what conclusions can we draw from this?

Your stupid asshole posts about how the Obama campaign is terrible, FAILING, or pursuing the wrong strategy, and your posts begging that the course change, are posted in the wrong fucking place. Since nobody here has the power to change any of that, you are pissing in the wind. It turns out, moreover, that the winds against you.

What do people on this board have the power to do? get out the vote, phone bank, register people, canvas, talk to friends and neighbors. That's it. Period. The grunt work of the campaign. That's all the people on this board can do. What does it require to slog through that kind of work day and night. It takes enthusiasm. Period. That's what it takes. So, every time you dampen enthusiasm on these boards, you chip away at the only thing people can do. Every time you do so by "begging" for a different strategy, moreover, you hurt the one thing people CAN do by yelling that somebody (Lord knows who) should do something else. You are, in short, a stupid motherfucking asshole.

Now, of course, the stupid motherfucking assholes who pursue such nonsense will now pretend that this common sense post about what people can do is the equivalent of the Thought Police, or the Nazis, or that I am trying to "police their language," or some other such stupid motherfucking defense. I don't give a fuck what you say, really. You can gloom and doom here to your heart's content. I'm just telling you, and everybody else, that you are a stupid motherfucking asshole. Which you're free to be.

Rather than just cry over their fears or complain at the computers.

I really don't want to lose this election. Today's polls are a bummer even though I knew they would get a bounce.

So I signed up for Camp Obama. I made another donation. I talked to a friend about joining me out of state, etc.

Obama should has never been able to get up by more than a few points, while he should be up by 10, yet some here think his campaign is doing a great job.

Pretending that McCaint's VP doesn't exist might have been the worst decision of this whole politcal season.

You don't get to tell other people what they can say.

You don't get to decide what dampens spirits and what inspires. You show a questionable aptitude for it anyway. The thing that you say dampens spirits may be the thing that shocks into action. The thing that you say inspires may be the thing that makes hundreds complacent. I'll decide for myself thanks.

The poll numbers are "bad" given the shitty McCain/Palin ticket. I mean, given the last 8 years we see McCain still having a chance to win. So I can see why people are nervous. Specially when nobody thought Bush was going to have a chance in 2004.

I don't blame people for being tense. So give them a break.

Your negativity doesn't make true your statement that the Obama campaign has been a trainwreck.

WTF do you want him to do? He gets buried by the media. It's not his fucking fault that half of America is stuck on stupid and to damn lazy to do some damn research on their own. Don't hold him accountable for the media playing up the Palin story while ignoring all her negatives.

The information is out there for all. Some just choose to take wahts spoonfed to them by the "liberal" media.

People blaming Obama for this are the fools who really don't understand whats going on.

I don't care who you are, nor am I inclined to converse with you.

Reasonable people can draw their own conclusions without your little sophisms: professional strategists are not checking DU for strategy tips. To think they are is fucking kooky, and anybody but the most self-deluded, self-important imbecile knows that. It's a ridiculous assertion. Lacking proof that they are, we can infer that they are not. I'd be happy to retract this whole thing if you can prove otherwise.

It's a message board, and you don't seem to get that message.

Chill out. Accept that others are merely expressing their concerns. Whether they have any impact on the campaign you will never know.

Edited on Sun Sep-07-08 07:01 PM by McCamy Taylor
Every demographic involved in the Democratic campaign should speak with its own (authentic) voice. If you hear a message that is right for you, use it. IF not, develop your own. That gives Obama more chances to reach more people. Kiss off the NeoNazis, oil companies, Right to Life and a few other members of the GOP base, but everyone else is fair game, so be creative.

47. I clicked on 'cause I knew who you
were addressing..it's rampant again.

I guess it needs to be reminded that Team Obama won a hard fought primary inspite of the all the attacks from Dems who thought they knew better than Obama how to run his campaign.

And, that's how you help win campaigns..

"What do people on this board have the power to do? get out the vote, phone bank, register people, canvas, talk to friends and neighbors. That's it. You are, in short, a stupid motherfucking asshole."

The corporatemediaWhore$ are doing all the Demoralizing they can ..we don't need "Dems" on our board helping them out.

57. VERY true
this is very true. I come home from volunteering in this red state and jump on here for refuge. Seriously, it's needed sometimes. I've posted something on here and had someone jump all over me and be pretty crappy, when all I'm trying to do is win this fucking thing-- and makes you wonder what you're doing it all for. This happened the other day to me and I really could have used a bit of humor or just hey, we're on the same team. Instead, some people think their best contribution is to nitpick other people's idea. Get a pair of balls and go out and help this fucking campaign instead of nit picking on people who are busting their asses. that's what I really want to say.

whew. I feel better now. Been keeping that in for days.

I know it can't be this way, but it would be soooo helpful if this place were a safe haven for now, when we really need all that positive energy and support. we all need it -- not just the volunteers.

After I finish talking to a redneck racist asshole, sometimes I feel like crying. I come home tired and beat down and jump on here hoping for some comradeship or good news. I find myself very emotional during this campaign -- and I'm not normally very emotional. It's upsetting. Great, uplifting wonderful things happen and horrible, ugly awful things happen. I see this more and more as some sort of larger battle of light and shadow forces.

It would be great if we could drum up a support network for those out there pounding the pavement, phone calls, etc.

We could use it.

thank you for saying what I wanted to say.

who are so stupid that they don't seem to understand that Obama got a bump from his convention (short lived) and that McCain is getting a bump from his convention. If they did some research or understood politics they would know this happens almost every time and it's not anything to get overly excited about. Yes, I agree that such posts really dampen enthusiasm which was why I was happy to phone bank for a couple of hours this afternoon. The positive responses I got sure made a difference compared to the gloom I usually find when I come to DU.

When they get doomed and gloomed they go to some prayer meeting and pray for "rain on Obama" (a message God did receive but, unfortunately for them, a day late and a nickle short). But that stuff makes them feel "we shall overcome". We Dems just go into the kitchen and start throwing every goddamned pot, pan, glass, jug, jar, broom, can opener, toaster..and an occasional major appliance if we can lift it up..at each other. Been a political junkie since age 13 and am now 63...and I prefer the kitchen slaughter fest to the prayer meeting...hell, we always lose but it's a hell of a lot more exciting. This has become a Fundie nation. They don't need "organizers". They have their churches to get out the vote. They still aren't hurting enough to actually revolt.

80. My word.
An interesting OP, and a curious thread that follows.

The Obama campaign encourages -- no! demands grass roots activity. So I am glad to read all calls for DUers to invest more time doing voter education and registration. It is not merely the "only" thing we can do, it is the most important thing we can do.

DU has the potential to be an important resource for grass roots organizing. This can be measured in several ways. The fact that people including Elizabeth Edwards, John Kerry's stepson, and Wes Clark's son have posted here in the past indicates that they recognize the power of grass roots activism.

This should not be mistaken for top campaign people looking to DU for high-level advice. That is not one of this forum's potential uses. If there are DUers with important information, they need to access the established chain of command, so to speak. I'll give an example: in 2004, I was contacted by someone with potentially important information from Pennsylvania. Rather than post it on DU, in hopes it would reach those who needed to evaluate it, I called the state campaign headquarters. I spoke to someone on the lowest level, and explained why I was calling; within a couple hours, I was on the phone with the state chairperson. I knew that I had done my part as a grass roots worker.

Work on the grass roots level with pride and understand the dignity of the work you do. Work hard to organize those people in your neighborhood and community. It's the most important thing that you can do.

Finally, ignore those who try to spread the germs of the Eeyore theology. It's hilarious that this thread has attracted some of the hand-wringers. No, Obama is not "losing." Those who keep saying such negative things appear to have their own agenda. Later for them. We have important work to do.

Peace,
H2O Man

90. Stupid motherfucking asshole checking in.
Wow! I feel like my car was just keyed in the DU parking lot with a lot of approving onlookers.

I am assuming that I am the person you are referring to in the OP based primarily on you singling out the word "begging" which I used in a recent OP. I'm not sure why your vituperative call-out couldn't have been made in that thread, but I guess you felt like you really needed a soapbox.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=6976827&mesg_id=6976827

The conversation that I depicted between me and my husband is 100% true. The adjectives terrible, failing, wrong strategy and course change are yours. That is your interpretation. My post was about subtext, or nuance, and brevity as it relates to interviews.

Honestly, I do believe that the campaigns read these types of forums and that is is a way to get your viewpoint to them, probably more powerfully than just sending an email to their website which may or may not be read by a staff member. How often are there posts here about Thom Hartman or Stephanie Miller or Elizabeth Edwards responding to or reading a post here? If we all thought that posting here had no relevance and no life beyond this forum and that we just lived in a tiny little biosphere, than I think many would not bother. Just as you do not care particularly about my opinion I definitely don't care for yours. I think you are a petty, foul mouthed martinet, but that's just my opinion.

I was not trying to dampen your enthusiasm, but you are definitely trying to dampen mine. I think that the Obama campaign can take my very benign, heart felt, well-meant constructive criticism/advice without seeing me as a threat to their future. You have attempted to defuse any response I might attempt about you being the thought police, but you are. You also have ignored the body of my posts over 4 years to paint me as a doom and gloomer. I encourage anyone who's part of the mob gathered here to do the same and then decide who's moth . . . . Oh, never mind.

I also posted this OP today
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=6976412&mesg_id=6976412

which some also took umbrage at. Again, I think the post stands on its own merits. I do see where I am guilty of self-aggrandizment in trying to suggest a different response, but it's not like that doesn't go on here all the time in thread after thread.

Now, if I happen to NOT be the motherfucking asshole you were referring to . . .

Nevermind.

realize that this board like any other board has visitors snooping around and take notice of all the ideas, suggestions, etc, etc to throw it back at our face. Our candidate is an exceptional man and his campaign is as extraordinary one. They have hit all the right notes. Keep those criticism to yourself. Instead go and volunteer and do something if you think they need your help. We are going thru a very desperate and critical time in our history that can not allow for having "THE SAME".

Thanks to all positive DUers that give my spirit high dosage of positivity. F**k McLoser and his campaign that are totally negative without giving any solutions but criticism of Obama.

... but I saw that with Kerry and Gore supporters too. I support Obama 100%, but I'm only loyal to his campaign strategists insofar as they get results. Going from a 3 point lead before the Democratic convention to a 4 point deficit (and 10 points if you go by Gallup's likely voter poll) is not a good result.

It's better to be honest, than blindly loyal, because only by being honest can we hope to correct the problem.

Show me where I promoted or embraced blind loyalty.

My point is simple: people coming on here yapping about how the campaign should engage in a major strategy change are posting in the wrong place, since nobody here can make that advice do anything. That's a simple point, and it doesn't have fuck all to do with loyalty. It's like talking to waiters about a major revision of the menu: it's fucking stupid because the waiters can't revise the menu.

So, what does all this so-called honesty accomplish? Nothing. It has the capacity to accomplish only one thing: it demoralizes people who need to be revved up. Is that a matter of loyalty? Fuck no. It's basic cause and effect: what is the effect of giving depressing advice to people who can't do anything with it? Where you pull out this loyalty shit is a mystery.

So, you've stated yet again the very bad result. What am i supposed to do with that? How can I correct the problem? You say that you want it corrected. Explain how anybody on this board is supposed to correct the problem you keep mentioning over and over again. How?

131. Calm down.
You're letting reason interfere with someone's heartfelt demonstration of self-doubt and pessimism. Have you no feelings?

Man. Sometimes I shock even myself with how cynical I can be.

121. I trust Obama playing the long game
He knows what he's doing. McSame is trying the ol' game changer, which will throw things off for a while, but the big-O will recover and put things back on track.

He hasn't let me down so far, and he's been up against one helluva lot tougher opponents than McSame and Pain.
