At work, in the break room |
|
The t.v. is on CNN Headline news all the time. Whenever I walk through, and that might be 7 or 8 times a day, if Palin or McCain is on the t.v., I point to the t.v. and call out "Liar!" as I pass by and the room laughs.
Today, I walked through at one point, and sure enough, there she was, and I pointed at the t.v. and every in the room called out "Liar!" and we all laughed.
I'm in Florida, and I'm pretty sure about 3/4's of them voted Bush. My tiny little daily ridicule has led to some pretty serious and respectful conversations.
Heaven knows, there's loads of opportunity here.

2. I kind of wish I had the opportunity to influence people at work |
|
But since I work at a labor union, I'm pretty sure 100% of the staff are already voting for him. Most of us have big Obama posters on our doors.

21. I keep hearing Rep taliking heads: "40% of Labor voted Bush" |
|
My SO is from a Teamster family, and they are voting McCain out of pure racism. We've tried to show them that they're voting against their economic interest, but they're so afraid that he'll "favor the black people" ("what? days off for black people but not white? Rebate checks for blacks only? Chocolates and stuffed animals on the desks of black government workers? WTF?")
And this is in a true-blue overwhelmingly Democratic city.
It's one of those "well, my (black) neighbors are great, my block is clean and well kept, that woman next door is so nice to me, the kid on the other side always says 'hi', blah, blah, blah, but I just don't trust 'The Blacks'"
Fear of The Other, I guess. We just keep hammering that Obama = more money in their pocket. We're hoping they'll just stay home Nov 4.
Your area may be more progressive.

6. You'd all be surprised... |
|
the Bush voters are just waiting for a reason not to vote for McCain. At this point, we really do have the upper hand. We think that the 'pubs make us feel guilty about being dirty, stinking liberals, but the truth is, they are looking for a reason to not vote 'pub this year.

You know, if one person, just one person does it they may think he's really sick and they won't take him. And if two people, two people do it, in harmony, they may think they're both faggots and they won't take either of them. And three people do it, three, can you imagine, three people walking in pointing at McCain and Palin, and saying "Liar" and walking out. They may think it's an organization. And can you, can you imagine fifty people a day,I said fifty people a day walking in pointing at McCain and Palin, and saying "Liar" and walking out. And friends they may thinks it's a movement.
(with apologies to Arlo Guthrie's "Alice's Restaurant".

10. What's sad is that I do the same thing |
|
Only I'm alone at home when I'm doing it, and yet I cannot help but spontaneously shouting "Liar!" (or worse) at my TV whenever any of them show up (and then the mute button gets pressed so I don't have a stroke)
I imagine that it's so ingrained in me now that if I were in public and saw a TV on, I'd do the same.
