I feel that some kind of intentional baiting is going on with the "lipstick" comment. |
|
It makes me nervous because I'm not sure if it's a good move or a dumb one.
But I'm guessing the idea is to make McCain's campaign overplay their ridiculous victimhood, "lay off Sarah" card and call them out on it, to lay out on the table that this is what they are doing.
The more I think about it, the more I think it might be the right move, but it does make me nervous.
This has probably been posted 5 times already, please disregard if it has.

When I read the 'Lipstick' remark earlier today I thought it would blow up knowing the McCain camp. I almost posted that I didn't like it. It seem obvious to me it could be taken wrong. I was away for a couple ours and come back to some kind of smack down which I'm still trying to understand but it seemed to make DU happy.
I suspect every comment is closely vetted this close to election so I think they lured the McCain camp into a quick response and then gansta slapped 'em.

2. I think the McCain camp would happily ride this "look at Sarah/leave Sarah alone" bullshit all the |
|
way to Election Day if the media and the Obama camp would allow them. The absolute flood of bullshit is nonstop.
I'm guessing it was a calculated provocation to draw the expected response and to highlight this bullshit right now. To hopefully try to get the media narrative back on track.
If that is the case, I hope they have calculated right. It actually does seem smart in a way but risky.

3. The only way it goes anywhere for the Right is if |
|
Obama plays into this ridiculous farce and tries to explain himself or worse- apologize.
I doubt he'd do anything that foolish, I hope not.
He needs to not react at all whenever it is raised as an "issue" and his people need to ridicule it openly, making the Right look like a bunch of sissie-pants.

He has to keep hitting, and I think he will.

and no need to always second guess. "They" need to be challenged - "they" are the opponent.

13. That's my point. I suspect that Obama made the "lipstick" and "fish" comments as part of a |
|
calculated move.
The remarks can be viewed as provocative but have plausible deniability. They are guaranteed to draw McCain's campaign into a frenzy, as they have done (demanding an apology and all that). Then Obama's people point out that not only was Obama not talking about her, it's a common expression, McCain himself has used it recently in reference to a woman, and not only that but it's been an endless nonstop parade of faux outrage and offendedness from the Republicans. Palin is running for VP, just because she's a female they want some kind of ridiculous sheltered bubble for her?
The point is, if they force the conflict on this shit right now, they either get hurt badly, or shame the media away from participating in the endless faux outrage. If it works, it forces the McCain people to have to shift to some other line of bullshit than what they've been going with the better part of a week.

7. What makes it a thing of beauty is that it's Cheney's famous line |
|
describing Kerry/Edwards among other things. It's evil on several levels but nooooooooooooooooobody said peep about it when fat bastard ruled the airwaves, so their protests now sound completely delusional, as in senile dementia.
Oh, it is to bust a gut!!!!

8. This is a war...every strategy involves risk |
|
This is a good risk.
We can't be nervous over everything. We have to assert that certain things are a win and keep asserting it. that's what they do, and that's why they've won. This pussyfooting indecision is weak ass shit in a war. Own the strategy and go whole hog with it, so to speak. The Mccain campaighn is unhinged here. They look ridiculous. Let 'em have it. then hit them again.
Fuck nervousness. that's for policy. This is a street fight. You have to fight or beat sand.

16. It's unbelievable, and it's why we've lost...."I'm nervous...I hope...I hope" |
|
Fuck that. Fight. Hope is for primaries and governing. Streetfighting is for the general, and we need less nervousness and more asskicking.
The capacity of DUers to snatch a bad day from a good one is remarkable, and it is rooted in "nervousness."
People keep talking about "controlling the narrative." Well how the fuck do you think somebody 'controls a narrative?" By picking a story and going with it. That's what a narrative is.

15. Too many on our side get "nervous" about every move the campaign makes |
|
When he doesn't attack, they post that they're nervous he's repeating the mistakes of Kerry.
When he does, like this, they make posts like yours.
QUIT BEING SO FUCKING NERVOUS, DEMOCRATS.
Sheesh.

18. It gives Obama the chance to play the "gender card" card, which they did today |
|
and will probably continue until the McCain campaign is cowed into submission.
It's a win-win for Obama, call them on playing the gender card, and they can never bring up the "sexism" crap again (similar to how McCain did with the "race card" card)

19. Oh please, everyone knows what "lipstick on a pig" means |
|
just as everyone knows what "grow some balls" means, and neither commonly used phrases are ever used with the intension of disparaging who they're directed at with anything having to do with gender. McCain embarrassed himself by being the one to throw out the gender card on this one, and the average person will see that. Hopefully they'll also see that Palin herself didn't have the courage to defend herself from the comment and allowed McCain (the knight in shining armor) to do it for her as though she were the fluttery weak maiden needing rescuing. This also reflects badly on McCain because of his acting like the knight in shining armor shows he himself chose a weak running mate he feels he needs to protect.
