5. While this comment can be gender specific, I don't think it is inherently sexist
If you are speaking about a man you would say

"put on your big boy pants"

The translation for both sexes is - Stop being a big baby!

and "don't get your bvds in a twist" or "shorts in a knot" or "knickers in a twist" which is the British origination of the term defined to mean "to become over wrought or unnecessarily upset over a trivial matter"

6. There's no need to discuss Gov. Palin's underpants...
...actual or figurative.

"Don't get your panties in a bunch" is a sexist American term that we shouldn't get near.

7. We're not on the same wavelength but that's ok.
I was being somewhat lighthearted with my comment and prefaced it by saying that Obama couldn't say it but I could. I stand with my belief that it can apply successfully to either sex with the meaning "Grow up!" The comment is based on the universal understanding that all of us wear underwear and and all of us were once children.

You are more sensitive than I am to perceived sexism, but again I accept that and am sure many are of the same view as you. Don't worry, the Obama campaign has way too much common sense and good taste to "go there".
