John McCain has utterly lost his way...
John McCain has utterly lost his way. Any honorable qualities he once possessed, he has squandered. Any dignity he once had, has been tarnished beyond recognition. He is a sad, sad example of what happens to a man who puts political posturing over matters of right and wrong.

2. John McCain has always been a douchebag
Yes, he served and was a POW, and I respect his service, but the man was an asshole before he was a POW; he was one afterwards. He cheated on his wife repeatedly, dumped her for a woman with money (I fully believe one thing that attracted him was her money, which he could use to help build a career in politics), was involved in the Keating 5 and then - unfortunately successfully - reinvented himself as a government watchdog by sponsoring and passing some legislation that was basically toothless in doing anything. He played the Maverick card in 2000 and lost because he wasn't the biggest asshole going for the GOP nomination, and now, he's got one last desperate opportunity to reach the top - and that's what it's about for him, going out on top, not the well-being of the country - and he's flip-flopped on every significant opinion he claimed to have that made him different and has embraced the worst ideas of his party.

He's been more successful than most in hiding what a scumbucket he is by playing the POW card (did so even back in the Keating 5 days) and doing the minimum of what was necessary to make it look like he was a reformer, but his desperation has revealed his true self.
