How awesome is it going to feel when we watch McCain's concession speech?
Yes, I know we've got 54 days left before the election, and every single one counts.

But I keep thinking about how fantastic it's going to feel when we finally win this race.

I keep visualizing the results coming in, the cable pundits sputtering, trying to explain the massive turnout of new Democratic voters sweeping Obama into office.

I keep thinking about the moment we'll know that Obama has finally won. Maybe if we're lucky, it'll be Florida that comes through with the final 27 electoral votes. What an awesome inversion of the 2000 election that would be!

I keep thinking about the moment when it all hits home: No more Bush! No more Cheney! No 100 years of war with McCain! No 4 years of listening to Sarah Palin! A new era, where we finally start the pendulum swinging back towards peace and freedom!

Knowing, in that moment, that we beat them. We really, truly... BEAT THEM.

And saved the country.

Knowing that America has shown the entire world that we can move beyond our racism and our fear, and elect a black man to the highest political office in the land. How great will that day be? How amazing? Knowing that we're living through history, seeing at least part of MLK's dream fulfilled in our lifetimes?

And then... McCain's concession speech. Watching him congratulate Obama. Knowing that he's humiliated himself in front of the world by squandering any integrity he had in this election. Knowing that he will never be the "straight talking maverick" ever again. That his greatest achievement will be as a political loser, a defeated opponent of Barack Obama, the 44th President of the United States.

Oh, and then Sarah gets her turn at the mic. And no matter what garbage she squawks out... I laugh and laugh and laugh.

I can't wait to share that night with all my fellow DUers -- knowing we visualized it, worked for it, and made it happen! Don't even get me started on Inauguration Day!

2. Keep thinking that way, because it WILL happen. Women and young people
are going to make the difference

The poll numbers are already moving down for mccain

The novelty is wearing off, and people are starting to realize mccain is bush, nothing new

4. I totally agree. Obama has been registering new voters like mad. McCain sure hasn't.
And we need some positivity here on DU! That's what gives people the energy to go out and do even more!

We are so going to clobber McPow. :)

5. The only strategy mccain can do is distract. He can't talk about the issues
because he voted with bush 90% of the time

So far the media has been a willing accomplice to his disctraction, but today after the phoney lipstick on a pig lie perpetuated by the mccain camp, I saw most of the media stop and finally question what the hell is the mccain camp talking about

On September 12, I think we are going to see a lot more aggressive campaign

12. Obama just needs to get that figure out there. "McCain. 90%. Bush." Repeat repeat repeat.
McCain looks laughable trying to push a "change" agenda... all Obama has to do is point out his record. I think Sarah will self-destruct on her own. She's already started. :)

6. no. If she were up for re election, she might not have been able to be on the
ballot for both positions. State law varies on this. In Texas she could, in Delaware she could.

7. Ugh. No. Fail.
I remember the "Kerry's headed for a landslide" threads of 2004.

Barack is the underdog, and we have to approach it like that.

9. I think about this too!

The big turning point in my election day fantasy is winning my home state, North Carolina. If we can get NC to turn blue, it would be a strong indicator that the rest of battlegrounds would follow suit and we'll win this thing!

The other one is maybe Indiana.

Even Colorado.

Honestly? Any state that is close in the polls that we end up winning would tell me that people really did keep their word and voted for the black guy. No Bradley Effect. And if I saw this happening, it would make me feel confident about the rest of the election.

14. my fantasy is carrying Texas, which in many polls is within 7 to 9 points with 9% ind/undecided
Nothing like prior years, and we have huge new voter numbers, and the primary turnout was like nothing I have ever seen here. Hell they didn't come out to vote for Ann Richards like they did in that primary.

But you are spot on with Indiana. Carrying it seals the deal IMHO even though I think we can win without it. It just is the earliest evidence of trending because the polls close fairly early there.

some polls show NC in a double digit spread; while others show much less. Again I think the newly registered voters are the wild card, aren't new voter numbers up there too?

Cell phones don't get polling calls either. The under 30 crowd tends to not have a land line; and probably most of OUR new voters are the under 30 age group.

13. I am going to be so very drunk and dancing in the streets
And I know we are going to win, bank on it.

As for inauguration day, my brother and I have already decided that we're going to take a train (Amtrak) down to DC for it. Just waiting to see if we can stay at AAFB for it or if we'll have to get a hotel (they are really expensive and hard to come by for those days in DC) because we'll be leaving from MA.
