Scathing Palin article getting attention in MSM
Edited on Thu Sep-11-08 07:53 AM by catgirl
Bloomberg.com:

Palin's Ethics Scrapes May Undercut Pledge to End Old Politics

Sept. 11 (Bloomberg) -- John McCain's choice of Sarah Palin as his running mate sent a signal that he would end business as usual and cronyism in government. Her record shows the Alaska governor engaged in some of the same practices she and McCain now condemn.

Palin's office approved a state job for a friend and campaign aide with whom she shared a land investment, financial records and interviews over the past two weeks show. She hired a former lobbyist for a pipeline company to help oversee a multibillion-dollar deal with that same company.

She named a police chief accused of harassment to head the state police. And she sent campaign e-mails on her city hall account while serving as mayor of Wasilla -- conduct for which she later turned in an oil commissioner on ethics charges.

These incidents raise ``some serious questions about her judgment and serious questions about her standards of ethics in public service,'' said James Thurber, director of American University's Center for Congressional and Presidential Studies in Washington. Suggesting a real estate investment partner for a job ``may be acceptable in Alaska; it would not be acceptable in Washington, D.C., a place whose norms she wants to change.''

3. The Freepers have been busy rating it down!
I think their lives revolve around rating down stories about their politicians.

You think one freeper even UNDERSTANDS that they side with those who FUNDED and groomed global terror networks for years when they side with the IranContra and BCCI thugs?

4. I read a while back...
...that she ran her entire campaign for Lt. Governor (which she lost) out of her mayors office. She even used her mayor's office email and fax number on campaign literature. She used her time while on the job to make phone calls, staffs time, government equipment, etc. Her campaign was funded by the taxpayers of Wasilla whether they were Democrats or Republicans.

24. Heard that, too. Her city hall office's numbers and email supposedly are all over the campaign...
forms. Pretty stupid thing to do actually. Either that or she didn't plan to be scrutinized any time soon or both.

5. McCain campaign: "Waaah, they're picking on her" in 5...4...3...
"See, we told you, the wolves are descending, just like we said in our ad. We're victims, sympathize with us". The sad thing is, it may actually work.

12. He does to us
I wonder how this tactic plays to the sterotypical Middle American swing voter. Make no mistake, the whole point of the Palin pick was to reignite the culture wars by deliberately putting the most freakish trailer trash they could find up on the national stage and daring us to make fun of them so they could label us as elitist ("When they criticize her, they're criticizing you, Mr & Mrs Small Town American"). I hope people will see through it, but I can't say I'm confident.

13. but but but....
FOX and Friends told me this morning that she is a different kind of politician and not a Washington insider....and besides FOX has not run a negative story about Palin so the Bloomberg article must not be true.

:sarcasm:

17. Yeah, newspaper articles. That will really win over those swing voters.
Yeah, the media that gave us two terms of Bush is going to save us from the two McNutzs. I don't think so.

18. I'll take the negative press over a press vacuum, any day and anywhere we can find it.
Always happy to help amplify it, when somebody reports it. No, they're not on our side.
But I've been pleasantly surprised by the some of the sources and blistering pieces that have come out in the last few days from big media like Time, Newsweek, NYT, WAPO-- I just don't necessarily expect to see this in a source like Bloomburg. The Freepers certainly understand the cumulative value of negative reporting. That's why they're busy attacking the ratings. I don't know what Swing voters read, but I doubt they spend much time at Salon...

19. Isn't Bloomberg read primarily by R-leaning business types?
Drip. Drip. Drip.

Add this to the Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac gaffe and you are looking at the potential for lots of Republicans deserting McCain.

22. I imagine there's a whole segment on her dealings in Alaska with Gibson
Hopefully, he makes some more news. He certainly has a raft of questions he can ask her, from TrooperGate(the allegations and the subsequent stonewalling) to cronyism to billing the state for nights spent at home to asking about banning books at the Wasilla library...
