Sausage-wielding man attacks California farm workers

A farm worker in central California awoke to find a robbery suspect rubbing spices onto him.

No telling what might have happened if he hadn't woken up.

Antonio Vasquez, 22, of Fresno is also accused of smacking a second farm worker with a sausage and stealing an undisclosed amount of money from their home.

Fresno County sheriff's Lt. Ian Burrimond told the Fresno Bee that the money was recovered, but the sausage was discarded by the suspect and eaten by a dog.

"That's right, the dog ate the weapon," Lt. Burrimond said.

Mr. Vasquez was arrested in the Saturday morning attack after a wallet containing his ID was found in the ransacked house.

He was found hiding in a field wearing only a T-shirt, boxers and socks, Lt. Burrimond said.
