Kerry Blasts Labor Department on Overtime

AMES, Iowa (AP) - Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry criticized the Labor Department on Tuesday for publishing tips for businesses to avoid paying overtime.

Kerry said the tips characterize the Bush administration's attitude toward workers.

``We don't have a broken budget in the United States of America,'' the Massachusetts senator said. ``We've got a broken set of values at the head of our government, and we need to stand up and undo it.''

<edit>

``They're putting out a guideline to employers for the ways in which those employers can actually avoid their responsibility to workers - even as they are prepared to give people earning more than $200,000 a year another tax cut,'' Kerry said while campaigning in this college town.

1. Good for John Kerry
The rest of the candidates, along with every Democrat in Congress, needs to go on record blasting Bush's (anti) Labor Department for this slimy "how to screw your workers" release.

Put another plus in the Kerry column.

2. Wait
A Democratic candidate attacking the party in power? You'd think the Democrats were an opposition party or something?

Oh, wait the story is in the British press - so it won't disturb the American press' meme that everyone supports the government...

7. Kick!
Wonderful remarks by Kerry. The others need to do the same.

Can you believe I've had people argue with me that Bush and his rethuglican cohorts are even ending overtime for certain classifications of workers?!

Our short attention spans will be the death of us.

9. You're right. The media tweaks what they want to tweak
on command. They are masters at distraction when political needs call for it.
