Palin, sounding defensive, compares "God's plan" remark to Lincoln "God's side" quotation |

She's amateurish and not at all at ease; at this rate, only the true believers are going to like this interview: http://abcnews.go.com/wn

7. I wonder which Rove crony had her come up with that one? |
|
Because that is SO NOT what she meant when she said it in that church - after giving shout-outs to Track's former nanny.

8. In fairness to her -- which I know we don't advocate here |
|
Gibson took her statement "pray that that there is a plan -- that our leaders are sending out our soldiers on a plan from god" and turned them into "our leaders are sending out our soldiers on a plan from god."
pretty shitty journalism, if you ask me.

10. Silly quote for us to focus on. In that one instance she is correct. |
|
Edited on Thu Sep-11-08 04:45 PM by Kurt_and_Hunter
When I listened to the entirety what she actually said (versus the internet paraphrases) Lincoln's quote was the first thing I thought of, without prompting. It was pretty plain what she meant when the following sentence(s) is included.

17. When I watched it on you tube she was saying we should pray that our foreign policy is god's plan |
|
And her other comments, about how she prays our intentions are good and prays we have an exit strategy... she even said that she "hopes it doesn't turn out to be about oil."
Of course she's going to be an Iraq War fanatic now, since that's now her job as McCain's running mate, but in quotes from before being picked as McCain's running mate she seems like a West Virginian... very pro military, but not so much pro any particular policy.
Since she admits she never gave the Iraq war much thought, that seems consistent to me--that kind of 'trusting in our leaders' attitude.
I read her as a Pat Buchanan theocrat type. Probably more isolationist racist wing than neo-con imperialist wing.
(And my anti-Palin bona fides are well established here)

13. The Follow-up - Where you thinking of Lincoln Or God's Master Plan... |
|
At the time you made that quote? Where you specifically make that quote in reference to Lincoln, and if so, are you a civil war scholar? Do you frequently review prior speeches of Abraham Lincoln? Do you recall what the Lincoln speech in question was made in reference too?

16. Does that plan involve the rapture? Do you believe in armageddon and the end days? |
|
Do you believe in the tribulation? If your church says that a final war has erupted, will you do everything in your power to counter that belief and stop the war? Do you believe in the separation of church and state? Can you, right now where you sit, tell the audience that the U.S. is a secular state, where all beliefs or non-beliefs are equal under the law? Can you tell the audience that the U.S. is not a Christian nation?
These are just examples of the types of questions that would be asked, if anything like real journalism were going on.
