Whatever Obama does, will they let him back into the game?
There's a big problem coming up. Some early voting starts in days (I believe Iowa??). Chuck Todd said that whatever poll numbers you see as of mid-October are it---game over--because of the early voting (in other words, last minute blitz doesn't matter). Problem is that the media has talking points to cover the next few weeks by taking the strung out Palin interviews and just concentrating on all the hype around those interviews. That leaves Obama just no way to grab back the spotlight no matter what he does, says or ads he produces. The media has McC's ass covered all the way to the end now. They have the ticket in their back pocket and don't even have to think about ways they can derail Obama.

1. You're right it's all over
I just took my Obama magnet off the car and replaced it with McCain/Palin. GO TEAM FASCISM!!

What?.... It's mid-September, oh no that means there's another month until mid-October, SHIT, I've gotta switch those magnets back.

Relax already, this hand-wringing is a total waste of time, bandwidth and perfectly good emotion.

2. For starters, the debates will surely change the conversation, and
they happen prior to the mid-October date Todd was pointing to. I don't know how early early voting is.

11. the debates....well
assume Obama does brilliantly in the debates

so did Kerry in '04

but that's NOT what swayed voters

"Right now, Obama is diving directly into the "too clever" and "not one of us" extended metaphor that overcame Dukakis, Gore, and Kerry. I suspect that this will be the McCain team's central frame for winning the debates even if he loses them on policy points, since that was how Bush bested Kerry strategically in the debates even though the polls seemed to indicate that, at a tactical level, Kerry won them all. But that is a long story I will come back to closer to the debates."

12. 3rd Kerry/Bush debate closing statements
Bush said something to the effect "What are you going to do? Vote for him when he's promising to do the same things I'm doing but somehow he's going to do them better?"

I thought, game over.

This year Obama's run to the middle when it became clear he'd win the nomination gave many whiplash and left a few hard feelings. McCain doesn't need to convince people to vote for him to win the debates, he just needs to convince enough people to not vote against him.

3. Do you know the percentage of early voters?
I think you are concerned for nothing. The only people who do early voting are those who are already decided.

The undecideds won't be voting early, your argument makes no sense.

5. Oh, I don't know....
If by whatever poll numbers you see as of mid-October are it---game over--because of the early voting you mean voters will be swayed to go with the "perceived winner," I would counter by saying any notion that the GOP is ahead would scare me shitless and I'd be certain to run to the polling booth to counter it.

8. The MSM has been attacking McCain
and Palin for days now. Pick up a paper or turn on the TV before you make such statements.
