----OK, who else has wall to wall coverage of Ike on MSNBC??--- |
|
They broke away from Hardball, on the first run, and now it's still Ike...I am wondering if there will be Countdown, and Rachel tonight??

4. Wellllll....this is a frigging nightmare storm... |

There are a lot of Democratic Voters whose lives will be affected by this event. Thus I would say that coverage is a good thing.

12. I'm well aware of that since I live in Florida... |

and have been through many hurricanes. I just don't think wall to wall coverage on MSNBC is necessary. There are many other places to get that info, such as the weather channel.

5. I understand the urgency of Ike, but ..... |
|
there is only so much hurricane you can cover. If it was to give people relief and advice, fine....but give updates every twenty minutes or so and go on with programming.

...and periodic updates would be plenty of coverage AFAIC. I understand this is a serious situation, but lately there are so many hurricanes and whatnot that it seems like the regular shows are preeempted on a weekly basis. There's only so much "boy it's gonna be a big one" predictions and weather maps I can take. I can almost see the network execs salivating for another Katrina-style ratings surge.

to hurricanes, but as I said above, that's what the weather channel is for. Plus, they always have their guys on the ground in the storms.

19. This hurricane is over 600 miles wide. |

I live in Dallas and they're predicting when it gets up here it'll still be a tropical storm. If that happens, it'll be a first.
They're showing areas where it's flooded, but they haven't gotten a drop of rain, it's all from the storm surges on the coast. And the hurricane hasn't even really hit the coast yet.
I agree there's no need for wall to wall coverage. That just isn't really that necessary. Texas even has its own cable network: TXCN. So we're covered.
They have reported there are people trapped in their homes in an area called Seabrook and their homes are flooding. Police can't get to them. Two huge fires in Galveston ran unchecked because the fire department couldn't get close to them.
It's definitely not Gustav. But again, I do agree we don't need constant coverage.

I know, it's a very big storm and the people in its path are in serious jeopardy. I don't mean to diminish the severity of the situation at all; I just really like Keith and Rachel. If I don't get my daily dose of political sanity, I get a little cranky. The Stewart/Colbert are in reruns this week too, but at least Bill Maher's on tonight.
Ooh! Keith's on with a hurricane sidebar!

I appreciate the coverage, but at the same time, the coverage itself is not that substantive. I wish that they could show Keith and Rachel, and just have hurricane updates within those shows.
