Who's the expert on DU on McCain and his ties to this financial crisis? |
|
I'm looking for some sources to dispute some items on Obama and McCain's involvement in this crisis.
Points that I need sources for:
1. Obama receiving the second most donations from Freddie/Fannie Mae. What involvement has McCain had? Lobbyists working for him, money taken?
2. McCain's ties to the other companies in the bailouts, lobbyists, etc.
3.McCain's deregulation votes and proposals.
4.More in depth sources on the Keating Five.
5.Info on what would have happened if Social Security had been privatized.
Got a winger on one of my blogs that I need to smack down and could use all the information I can get my hands on. Think I should post the whole blog and response?
ANY help any of you could be would be great! Thanks all!

5. Been working on it all morning |
|
Thing is, in depth analysis of the S&L thing, mostly the Monetary Control Act of 1980 and the Depository Institution Deregulations Act of 1980 is hard to find info on. The basics are there, but, not who wrote them. Carter signed them into law, but, I want to know who was behind them. I need more info on Nixon deregualtion before Carter and how Reagan made everything worse with his governing.

2. Last night on "Countdown" with KO... |
|
...he showed three clips of McCain--specifically saying that he was against corporate regulation. Some of the clips were lengthy, and John McCain talked at length about how he was against corporate regulation and how he was a "deregulator."
Find those clips.
They are stunning, and they should be in Obama's next ad.
If you think about it, McCain has NO credibility on this issue. He was the chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee. Hello? What did he do to prevent any of this disaster? NOTHING.
In fact, he fueled it--as evidenced by those repeated, "I'm against regulation" quotes that he's made throughout the years.

I will use some of those. But part of the argument is about the S&L scandal of the 1980's and who was more responsible Dems or Reps. I'm working on that part right now. The Obama vs. McCain part was easy. Now I'm heading toward the Keating Five part of the S&L thing but, wanted to counter his "Carter was responsible for the S&L thing" bullshit. I was just a kid back then! LOL

9. First, Fannie and Freddie did not cause this despite McCain's assertions. |
|
The banks are predominantly to blame.
As for McCain's ties, he voted for every banking deregulatory bill including the one written by Phil Gramm, his economic policy advisor.

13. I just acknowledge that he did and was wrong for doing so |
|
Then I point out that EVERY Republican Senator voted for it and ALL BUT ONE Democratic Senator voted against it.

My mother always hated my debating skills growing up. Everything was always challenged. ;) But, now, my son is the same way and it is annoying! LOL That damned "Mother's Curse"
Mom alwaya said I should be a lawyer, but, I'd be broke as a lawyer. I'd end up with all the underdog that can't pay cases!

12. Expect they will latch on to Fannie & Freddie |
|
Republicans haven't been thrilled with them for a long time because they helped millions of lower middle and middle class workers achieve home ownership.

then of course you have the convenient lack of ANY kind of sourcing.

11. Social Security---his response |
|
In the blog I wrote, I asked rhetorically of course, Gee...Wonder why the republicans wanted to privatize Social Security so badly?!
His response to this portion of the blog was this:
"“There was never any intent to invest short term retirees in the market...look it up before you state it. Privatization was ultimately going to CONTINUE to be controlled by congress and there would be safety nets for the idiots that pulled out their money and lost. You weren't going to get to keep all that money that was currently going to social security, it was just not going to go into the general coffers where congress can spend it wherever they wanted. You were going to actually see your dollars grow or shrink. But there was a minimum guaranteed, not like now where we are hoping there will be money.”
Is there is a minimum guaranteed with Social Security? i thought I read that somewhere. I think it was an article talking about the solvency of Social Security until 2040-something...not sure. Anyone got any info. handy?
