McCain is STILL Using Van Halen's Songs in their rally's even though they asked him to stop
Even though Van Halen has asked them to stop, I noticed today they played 'Right Here, Right Now' once again. Can't Van Halen sue? This is like the third time they have played it since they asked them to stop!

1. Repukes never follow the rules or the law
I think that much has become crystal clear over the last 4 days.

5. Repukes have no knowlege of copyright law whatsoever.
One post on freep said that after 17 years, it's a moot point. That's BS, because the copyright extends for 50 years after the death of the copyright owner. (In fact Disney got that changed to 90 years, in the "Mickey Mouse Bill"). Repukes have no clue when it comes to copyright.

8. Repugs claim they purchased the rights to play these songs
Not if the campaign has the correct license. Like thousands of other songs, "Barracuda" is distributed by the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers, meaning that any entity that is licensed with ASCAP can play a song without getting the artist's explicit permission. This license can be held by a venue, like a club or a sports arena, and apply to all events that take place there. In this case, the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn., would be the holder, but a representative tells the Explainer that the venue's ASCAP license applies only to sporting events for the Minnesota Wild and the Minnesota Swarm, the professional hockey and lacrosse teams, respectively; otherwise, it's up to the people who use the premises to get their own. A spokesperson for the Republican Convention said the event did have an ASCAP license separate from the one for sports.

9. Actually, I read/heard somewhere recently they bought licenses two years ago
to all this music that is being disputed. And thus the artists can't really do anything about it. I don't know if the Van Halen is included in this, but I was surprised they actually are covered for some of the music they are using. Who knew Grampa McCain would win his party's nomination when they took his money for licensing rights two years ago?
