9. The Staple Singers!
Edited on Sun Sep-21-08 02:24 PM by FrenchieCat
That is from the 70s. I remember them well, because the Staples family came from my neck of the woods; the Northern Bay Area in CA. The Dad was a Minister, and their songs are spiritual.

It was a father and 3 daughters act...with Mavis Staple singing the lead. They also did, "Respect Yourself"....which was another one of their greatest hits...here they are singing it live in concert (probably the Watts Festival in LA in the mid 70s). Watch Mavis Staples; she really good! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CbgqM29_ZlA

Here's their "I'll take you there" live in concert, circa 1972.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gC4Z_ysG0HU&feature=related

and when her daddy started playing his guitar in the way that he did....Mavis would sing....daddy, daddy, play it daddy.

Those were the days....of KDIA! I attended one of those Watts Festivals. I was the cute high yellow one with the giant Afro! The Silvers had nothing on me! LOL!
