RUMOR: I heard that shrub's secret weapon is
having vets from his unit go on stage with him, you know, the ones that couldn't be found despite doonesbury's $10,000 offer.
IF this occurs, what do you think would be the reaction from undecideds?
I read this on a msg board on yahoo, some "vet" was arguing with somebody and let this rumor fly.

or would it not help that much? i'm just worried.

1. When you say "Vets" are you talking about
dealers, keg buddies or what?

19. Big difference if Ala or Tx. Which one???
I suppose it alll depends on whether this creature can prove he was with shrub during the missing records time. Them, I suspect there better be more than one guy! A few in the media will ask him why he's been silent for all this time, and the "Gee I never thought it would get this bad" story isn't going to work.

I've got to agree with the other poster. If there was such a person, we would have seen them much sooner. This was also an issue when he ran for Gov. in Tx. so we're talking about a long time and a lot of unanswered questions.

Why can't anyone get hold of that buddy of his (I forget the name) who was in the NG at the same time and involved with his inventments too? I doun't think this is going to happen. It would involve too much digging into people shrub is trying to protect in exchange for them protecting him.

24. "Vets" in the Chimp's case refers to "Veterinarians"
The ones that did the biological experiments on him at Los Alamos to give him slightly more human-like traits.

3. It would backfire. It would call attention to ALL the questions
surrounding his service. Plus, it would make him look like he is beating a dead horse, and solidify the suspicion in most American's minds that Bush was behind the smears on Kerry.

I hope he does it. Then we'll watch and laugh as the supposed unit members are revealed as liars.

11. You mean vets from his unit that
didn't go to Vietnam? I'm sure that would be right up there with the Swifboat Veterans (real ones) that were onstage with Kerry. If they could even be found.

15. No way
It would simply make his guard "service" -- whether "honorable" or not -- the subject of discussion again, and all the old questions would arise: even if he WAS there, he didn't show up for the physical, he was grounded, and he got an early release . . oh, and he posed with medals he didn't earn, plus he got in via family connections. They cannot afford to have these facts placed back into evidence for the ever forgetful national jury to consider.

Would that it were so. Rove is evil, but not stupid.

14. Too late -- Ben Barnes is going to spill all the beans on 60 Minutes.
And believe me, old Ben knows where all the bones are buried. Besides it would look so VERY derivative. If the Freepers are talking about that they must be awfully worried and secretly hoping for Bush to pull a rabbit out of Alabama.

But it would look so small for their glorious leader to do that.

16. I remember the GOP mentioning that they would 'out general' the Dems ...
I haven't watched any of the Pig convention so I don't know if they had their 'military parade' yet but I wouldn't put something like that past them.

And if they do it, I'm sure alot of people will see it for the copycat stunt that it is ... and Kerry's band of Generals can get on the tube and declare that it's the GOP that engages in 'campaign stunts' (what the Pugs accused Cleland of last week) and use this as clear evidence.

22. I think he'll stand on the stage with vets who support
him but don't know him and/or with NY firefighters who support him but don't know him. He can't possibly have anybody on who knew him way back when cause they would be grilled on his behaviour back then and everybody knows he was either drunk or on coke or both. i don't think Bush will bring in anybody who's known him more than one day.

21. Perhaps Jim Bath, Chimpy's fellow flight physical no-show...
...cum Bush family bag man, will appear with him.

You know, whatever the trouble was that kept Jimmy and Georgie from taking their flight physicals on that long ago day, the family has compensated Bath handsomely for his silence, ever since.

23. Not smart
Edited on Wed Sep-01-04 08:16 PM by rocknation
It would underscore the fact that he got into that unit to avoid Viet Nam. It would suggest that he bribed his brothers considerably more than $10,000 to keep quiet. It wouldn't prove only that showed up on occasion, not that he served out his full term. It would bring up the matter of a ribbon that he should have been awarded after satisfactorily completing five consecutive years of service--it doesn't appear on his military record. It wouldn't detract on Kerry's record or character. And it just wouldn't have the same cachet as producing Osama. Better Bush should place his chips on him.

25. No chance.
All that would do is remind people he was too scared to fight in a war he SUPPORTED. Any able bodied prowar young men have no excuse for letting others fight the war for them, it's cowardice plain and simple.

27. Oooh I'd be worried too
Cause all you have to do is sit a Vet next to Chimpy (preferbly one missing at least TWO limbs) and damn if those "undecideds" get all misty and want to vote for this war Prez.

Of course, these would be VETS from WARS that CHIMPY never fought in.

It would make him look like a damn fool, trying to copycat what Kerry with the important difference. No combat service, just the medals for most consecutive beer bongs.
