Why do we need a TIMETABLE to fix our economy?
Let's deal with strengthening the regulations and consumer protections first. THEN maybe we can talk bailout.

Why rush into a bailout with a predetermined TIMETABLE? That just sends the corporate crooks who got us into this mess the wrong signal. It lets them know that they hold all of the cards and that any threat of regulation by Congress is phony.

NO TIMETABLES ON FIXING OUR ECONOMY. We need to take the time to get the job done right.

2. Thanks! I mean the stock market tanked a week and a half ago.
Now we suddenly have to push through a last minute solution in the next couple of days or we will be in the Great Depression by Monday? I'm not buying it.

4. months
This crisis has been developing for months, and many were warning us. Also, the adminstration has had this plan in the works for a while.

6. True, but even if you weren't paying attention you would have to have known for sure...
...that something was wrong by last Monday. Why did McCain say the fundamentals of the economy were strong, then he waited around and continued campaigning for a week and a half -- now suddenly it's Wednesday and he's going to "suspend his campaign" and it's a dire emergency unless we rush this bill through on the Bush administration's timetable?

I think things are much worse than they are telling us. The administration got the message to McCain, and he flipped.

3. I like Schumer's idea: Start small, and see where we are after the election
