He'll go to DC today, do the political stuff he needs to do, and return to Mississippi tomorrow.

I think it was Lawrence O'Donnell.

McCain basically has NO excuse to skip the debate, because:

1. He isn't on the Finance Committee, which is chaired by Chris Dodd. O'Donnell said that Jon Tester, the Junior Senator, had more power on this issue than McCain since Tester is on the committee. When things are getting done, McCain won't even be in the room.

2. McCain was basically coming to Washington with nothing to do until Bush invited him and Obama to this meeting. O'Donnell said the meeting was nothing but a photo op; none of the work to pass the bill would be done there.

So it looks like McCain is busted on having an excuse to hang around Washington after Thursday.
