----Question everyone! what if this bailout is a SCAM----
Edited on Thu Sep-25-08 07:49 AM by 1corona4u
Ok, lets' say this bailout goes through, and it's not exactly what the dems want, or Obama for that matter. Can Obama change anything about it when he gets into office? What if it turns out that the whole thing was a ginormous sham? Then what?

6. Yes, but can Obama change it, or rescind it, once in office??
I just don't know enough to know whether or not that's an option...

13. I think so
But, of course, a lot depends on how FAST they spend that $700 Billion. These guys spend money like a super model girlfriend on a trip to Paris.

22. I have thought all along that there was something fishy around.
I had a gut check when I first heard of the bailout. I felt immediately that this whole thing was the Republicans' last run at the money. I think the Republicans had a premonition that the Democratic Party would gain veto override power and that they would be out of control for a long, long, long time. One way to overcome the Democratic platform objectives is to empty the treasury before the Democrats take power, leaving no monies to fund these programs. This little trick would give them access to all the extra money for years to come, before the changing of the guard. It is being squandered as we speak. I think this is their October surprise. God, I hope there is nothing worse coming.

It would have been cheaper to give all of our Senators and Representatives bonuses of $100,000,000.00 each and be done with it.

7. The bailout will be a scam if there's no regulation and added oversight attached...
so if this bailout turn out to be just throwing money at people who already have a ton of it, then Obama should be able to add the needed regulation when he's President with the help of a Democratic Congress. Nothing will be a quick fast fix though.

10. But, could he halt the whole thing, if/when he finds out they lied?
I know there is something beneath the surface here, we all do.

14. I think it's a scam any way you look at it
I mean, how did we end up here in the first place? Scam. It's up to the Dems and clearheaded Reps (if there are any) to mitigate the damage.

17. Depends. If Obama wants to buy into the "Unitary Executive" BS of Bush,
I guess he could overturn the thing on his own. I don't think he would unless it really, really, really is a crisis though. I think he plays by the rules.

Otherwise, he can strongly urge Congress to pass legislation to overturn it, but not do it himself.

An awful lot of republicans are really concerned about the lack of oversight in the bill and that may work in Obama's favor especially if they are facing re-election this year or in '10.
