Madison - President Bush may be inching ahead in Wisconsin polls, but that will change as the candidates get closer to the Nov. 2 election, former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean said Wednesday.

Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney could receive a bounce of as much as 10 percentage points when this week's Republican National Convention in New York wraps up, but that won't last, said Dean.

"The campaign really hasn't started yet," Dean said. "The polls are really close, and going up and down, and this one will go down to the wire."

According to a recent Gallup poll, Bush leads Democratic nominee Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts 48% to 45% among likely Wisconsin voters.
