I don't get it... what does McCain have to gain?
What does he have to gain by jumping in on the negotiations and playing spoiler to a deal like he did today? Not only that he and the House Repubs offered up an idea to deregulate more and have a moratorium on corporate taxes, something that makes no sense and addresses nothing.

I can see if the Dems just rolled over and let him have the politics of it, but Dodd and Barney Frank all said to the media he sat around like a lump the whole meeting, and were pissed that as soon as he came in and injected politics the deal fell apart.

Now McCain looks like a total asshole, and after being ripped by Letterman yesterday and Palin's joke of an interview with Couric, he just looks like a clown.

I can see if he was against the bill and made a populist stand, but he injected more of the same failed policies on this. I guess maybe he thinks no Dems will really call him on it.

But he's dont little more than make himself look erratic and reckless for the last few weeks, I don't know if this is part of some plan or if the guy is totally imploding or what.

1. He's a compulsive gambler and they're keeping him out of the casinos, so he's throwing the dice
any which way he can.

2. He is in the news
and Palin isn't news. Even with her messed-up interview and her messed-up connection to that crazy pastor of her's.

3. He is now the populist reformer!
Thousands of Democrats and Republicans have been flooding the offices of their congress critters complaining about the bailout. John makes a dramatic entrance into Washington and straightens out those "insiders" back there, kicks ass, takes names and bashes heads. Presents his "own" plan that doesn't use taxpayer funds (well, it's billed that way... but once you look at it, it's another tax shift from the rich to the middle class) and pow, zowie... a new hero of the "little guy" is born.

Wraps up the Election without even one debate.

6. yeah but that isn't happening for him
nobody has hailed him in that way that I've seen. Not in the MSM, yeah Fox will eventually fall in line, but everything, even a clip from them, I've seen this morning is either negative or ambiguous. The comments of the people coming out of that meeting weren't particularly flattering and Dodd and Frank made him sound like an ass.

11. You're right...
He over played his faux concern for the little guy by alienating the one base he needed; the media.

12. Wait till tomorrow's news cycle...
and next week.

Hell the toner isn't even dry on the talking points yet. tomorrow the MSM (Faux leading the way) will have the "brilliant strategy" angle all pumped up and blown dry. All next week we will hear talk of McCain's "leadership" to stop the 700 Billion dollar giveaway and how Obama was meekly following the criminals down the path to socialism and big government bailouts.

Of course, should we have a complete market meltdown, this may not be good for McLame.

If he can convince America that the House Repuke plan (which will now be called the McCain Prosperity Reform Act of 2008) is the way to go... he might just be able to stave off the market collapse until AFTER the elections. MIGHT.

4. Risk
He's in a staring context - don't blink - he's telling Barrack to do one of these:
1) Stay in Wash with me and look weak.
2) Go to Miss without me and look petty.
Thats what he wants. What will happen... for Obama its clear he's got to stay out of appearing like either.
Cheers

8. he's impulsive and amateurish
I have to wonder how he got this far? I think a lot of it must actually be living off the POW thing. For years, I knew McCain wasn't what people thought he was, but I thought he had a little more to him than say a simpleton like Bush. Now, I'm not so sure.

9. he appears to be
'leader like'

he thinks he appears in charge

and he hopes he will sweep in tomorrow with a new bailout proposal and solve the current impasse

then this will make him look like the big econ saviour

10. He gains big if people are insanely stupid
Clearly, if people can see through the incredibly thin layer of bullshit, then he's cooked himself.

The Corporate Media is oddly calling him on it but leaving the door open to give him the credit. Its almost like they are waiting on polling to decide how to frame this one.

Unfortunately, that description includes Republicans and most of the mainstream media.

17. He has everything to gain. With the polls for him tanking
and with the shine on Palin wearing off, and the country in an economic flux, his campaign could be over by the first debate. So what does he do? And these are the points they put out that the media has gleefully grabbed onto. "He through the long pass. He put his country before an election. He put it all on the line. He still is the maverick. He is showing leadership." And the biggest lie of all, "he has put his campaign on suspension". None of this is true but these are the talking points the American people keep hearing. And the funny thing is he has no plan or strategy to solve any of this. He will just wait and when something gets done claim it as his doing. And the media will grab onto that talking point. The repukes know the media doesn't report anymore. It is all opinion talk with entertainment. You will never see the true story being told without hearing from the other side to lie. If I hear "showing leadership" one more time I will puke. In other words he has everything to gain.

18. This is the breakup of the Republican party
and McLame sits in the "middle" trying to keep his OWN party together. The lunatic fringe repuke-biased media refuse to call the repukes "divided" but they ARE. With this issue, the Dem position is consistent and clear but for the repukes, their 2 wings (small gov't/fiscal conservative/free market vs neocon/social conservative/war hawk) are trying to hide their internal family fights by continually pointing their fingers at the Democrats (who have nothing to do with the repuke problem). The repuke moderates have been slammed aside by both factions and McLame, by stepping in, is now getting the pummeling from those same factions.
