KKK plan to show up on Ole Miss campus tonight |
|
Edited on Fri Sep-26-08 04:26 PM by npincus
Not normally a violent person, but I hope they get their white-sheet asses kicked in tonight. To me, those costumes they wear make them look like over-sized tampons. http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2008/09/26/ku-klux-klan-members-plan-to-appear-at-presidential-debate-site/The Mississippi White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan plan to be on campus for the face-off between Republican nominee John McCain and Democrat Barack Obama, the first African-American nominee of a major party, according to a Friday report in the university’s student newspaper.
University officials haven’t commented. But, since winning the bid as host a year ago, they have used the attention to promote the university’s efforts toward racial reconciliation.
The university newspaper, the Daily Mississippian, first reported earlier this month that the white supremacist group planned to appear among the throngs expected on the Oxford, Miss., campus. The emperor of the White Knights group, whose identity was withheld as a condition of the interview, said his members would be “invisible … Our people won’t be in regalia or demonstrating. So, I guess you’ll just have to guess which of the people present are Klansmen.”
Some at Ole Miss, as the school is commonly known, worry that the possible appearance of Klan members might undermine the debate as a symbolic turning point.
Ole Miss senior Paul Quinn, who wrote the articles, said in an interview that “some people standing up and saying this is not who we are. Everybody thinks it’s pretty chilling.”

Even if not, do you think there will be any doubt as to who they support and who they oppose.
Oh please let them show up and get lots of camera time! Some pro-McCain chanting by a bunch of rednecks in klan robes would look great on the national evening news for the next week or so!

They're probably already living their karma-- outraged that an African American would take the highest job in the world. They must just seethe from dawn to dusk. Serves them right. But what gets me is that they teach their CHILDREN to hate-- dressing them up in children's size KKK costumes. UGH!!

These evil motherfuckers are still around in the 21st century. The KKK is a blight in this country today. It is nothing short of shameful that these people are still around.
I would hope that the media picks up on this and condemns this kind of hate.

put a real touch on the shame of racism. People who wouldn't associate themselves with the KKK might still be wary of voting for Obama because he's half-black. Maybe seeing these pinheads out in force will make these people confront themselves a bit -- "If I don't vote for Obama because he's black, doesn't that make me as bad as these backwards crackers?"

Seriously, i hope they show these freaks.. they make America look so petty and backwards - and hopefully just seeing them will guilt-trip the few on the fencers who are only not sure about Obama because of his race.. but like his policies. One look at the KKK standing there with their sheets over their heads should send any sane person running to vote Obama because the White supremisict extremists on the other side are no better then the Taliban.

...what motivates a person to join the KKK? What incentive is there to join such an organization, and what does it provide its members with? A sense of belonging? A cause for white men? A way to rebel? It's so at odds with the world we live in. It's utterly mystifying to me.

39. In a way I'm glad that the campus will have to face this unfortunate |
|
fact of Mississippi's history. Most folks down there pretend that racism isn't a problem anymore. They pretend that there really isn't a large KKK contingent. I know because I was born there and graduated from Ole Miss.
So maybe, just maybe the students and perhaps even the general public there will acknowledge that there is a problem. Hopefully that will happen without any major disruption or, God forbid, violence.
And hopefully the KKK won't draw attention from Obama's spectacular performance.

If nobody is supposed to know who they are, what's the point? They could not show up and then claim, "Yeah, hundreds of us were there."
The big "rallies" I've seen have had about eight of them, shouted down by hundreds of counter-protesters. So now they're claiming to be there, but hidden. Guess they're scared.
