Obama should challenge McCain to define victory in Iraq |
|
He keeps letting McCain throw out the word victory, without having to define what it means. Nobody has said what actually needs to be accomplished in Iraq to declare victory, especially not McCain. And if he does, then he should explain why those goals aren't being met. Everything is being framed in military terms, which is a mistake on Obama's part, because that is McCain's frame.

I agree. It was eerie to listen to McCain couch his comments about Iraq in phrases that used to be applied to Viet Nam. The problem is, any attempt to call him on it brings up the POW thing. There has got to be some way to frame his thinking as out of date without directly saying "Iraq is not your chance to go back and 'win' Viet Nam."
Or should it be a damn the torpedoes thing? Just go ahead and say it: "Iraq is not your chance to go back and 'win' Viet Nam." These kids shouldn't be dying now because you didn't get your 'victory' then.
I think one of the vets put it best: "You can't win an occupation."
