What Did Other People In Your House Think Of The Debate?
My mother thought McCain was articulate. I think she's comparing him to Bush. She's not a Republican. She said Obama seemed nervous and stammered a little, but she thought they both did about equal. She said Obama was likeable.

My dad got bored and fell asleep, as he's want to do when there's not a game on. He really doesn't like politics.

What did the people in your house think?

1. I thought it was great. i was able to yell at the tv while my wife and kid
were out of the house. Good for them because I was rather profane.

3. I didn't watch it, but I recorded it.
It might be interesting to watch it muted with closed captioning though.

9. my repug hubby and i agreed they would see it as a draw. but hubby says
that for obama to just be able to hold his own on this subject was a win for him. BUT i am happy to see the nation sees obama as a winner. we can easily go for that.

i think what really bothered us, and may have caused the loss for mccain was the fuckin obviously he doesnt understand. no.... it wasnt clear he didnt understand, look like he very well understood. so was condescending that rubs the wrong way

16. Yep
I said that in another thread. McCain just looked like an asshole saying that Obama didn't understand, when he clearly did.

10. My husband who is a Republican but was planning to vote for Obama -
When I asked, "Based on what you heard tonight, how would you vote?", he replied, "I don't know." I'm really bummed. I thought Obama fared better than McCain on foreign policy, looked and acted more presidential. Hubby also mentioned that Obama seemed nervous. I didn't notice.

13. I live with an Ecuadoran and a Turk.
Neither one was impressed with either candidate, and each is scared shitless about what the U.S. will do since both agree that we are the 800 pound gorilla on the planet.

I was extremely disappointed in each candidates presentation on the economy. Sorry folks, Obama's economic program has always been a problem for this Edwards supporter. Don't worry. I'll vote for the big O and pray.

14. My republican wife and I were watching in separate rooms
I walked over to her halfway through and casually said, "So... what do you think so far?"

It went all downhill from there. I missed most of the segment on Iran because we were too busy shouting at each other.

15. Well, let's see...

My older kitty, Hobo, thinks Obama came across as very statesmanlike and presidential, and that McCain seemed hostile and condescending. My younger one, Spaz, wishes Obama had hit harder against McCain on his record regarding funding for veterans and Palin's pork barrel spending. But she still thinks Obama came out ahead overall. They're both slightly disappointed that neither candidate touched on increased funding for catnip subsidies and fuzzy mouse toy research.

(Sorry - I live alone)

18. Kids said "I know this is Obama but who is the other guy?"
My twin girls are 9.

They may barely know who McCain ever was, unfortunately in a way, but Obama they know who he is.

Wife and I agreed that Obama was nervous at first but gained command.

My kids were also marveled by the graph on CNN and noticed that blue was up when Obama talked and red when McCain talked. They seemed to realize the independents were also more pro-Obama towards the end.

19. my (Democratic) husband thought McCain won
He thought he looked stronger.

I honestly don't know what he's talking about. I thought Obama's body language made him look very comfortable and commanding, and I really liked the way he flat-out called McCain on his misstatements (lies). But he thought McCain sounded tougher. I have to admit that I had to run an errand in the middle of the debate so for about 20 minutes I was limited to listening on the radio.

20. Watched it with my wife
She thought McCain did pretty good, commented on how Obama didn't talk about Nuclear power at first and agreed with McCain's points about taxing business owners too much and they will take their business elsewhere. She didn't like having me gone for a year in Iraq so she tends to be pretty isolationist when it comes to defense and foreign policy.
