Kerry campaign needs an ad explaining how the Senate works |
|
Narrator: Because you were too drunk to pay attention in your government class in high school, you may not know that Senators sometimes vote for bills that they don't agree with 100% and sometimes vote against bills even if they don't like one little part. When they vote against a bill, they are hoping that it doesn't pass so that the problems will have to be fixed.
Saying that Kerry voted against body armour for troops is one of the biggest distortions in Karl Rove's career of big distortions. Kerry voted for an $87 billion bill that was payed for by eliminating the tax cut for the very wealthy. He voted against the bill when that part was removed. He hoped that the bill would be re-written to pay for the war. Body armour was in both bills, and was never going to be removed from the bill. The question really is, why did George Bush send our troops to Iraq without body armour in the first place?

1. Al Franken had another way to explain it |
|
The line that the Republicans have used against him of course is "I voted for it before I voted against it."
Franken said the Republicans voted against it before they voted for it. Which is true, they rejected another form of the bill that Kerry supported which would have paid for the bill instead of increasing the deficit.
But I agree with you that it should be addressed in an ad that explains why Kerry voted the way he did, and that Kerry knew his vote would not hurt the troops in anyway.

2. Here is my line on that one (from another thread on this) |
|
"Kerry voted FOR the 87 Billion, when YOU REPUBLICANS were going to PAY for your war, and he voted AGAINST the 87 Billion when it was going to be paid by OUR CHILDREN! Guess who is now paying for it?"
