Will McCain Campaign Throw Sarah Palin Under the Bus??? |
|
I believe they will leak a scandal ie. the affair, free gifts, or troopergate. She will be forced to step down due to her own actions thereby clearing McCain of throwing her overboard.
McCain will then pick Huckabee, who is a fundie and is already vetted.
Changing her out for Huckabee will dominate the news cycle and McCain will not care that he personally ruined Palin. I hope she is watching her back. I know Rove has the goods on her and he will release the info if it is needed.
Call me a consipiracy theorists but that's how I see it going down, especially with McCain's poll numbers continuing to decline. He needs another gamechanger.

1. If he does this it will shine a light on |
|
his poor judgment and recklessness in choosing her in the first place.
I think there is a overwhelming buyers' remorse. Any way you look at it, he is screwed.

3. Yes, there will be some questions on his judgement. McCain likes to gamble but he |
|
will leave the table if he is losing too much. That is why I think they will leak evidence of the affair or troopergate to ruin her in the eyes of his base. He will then replace her with another acceptable fundie. I see Rove all over this move. They don't care if they ruin her. If he replaces her, this is the only way it happens.

6. But if it is clear he's already lost, then he has nothing to lose by dumping her, |
|
and I'm sure they'll spin it so the faux reason is something they could never have foreseen. As long as the replacement is fundified and the "reason" doesn't call into question McCain's judgment, what's to lose?

12. Well two problems there... |
|
First off I don't think it is clear he has already lost. Secondly unfortunately she has been a boon to his campaign. We like to make fun of her here, but she boosted his numbers where they wanted her to IMO.
Also IMO even a family crisis would call into question his judgment. I don't think their is any way out for him even if he was looking for one.

28. She *was* a boon to his campaign when she was an unkown. |
|
As days go by it gets harder to hide her idiocy and she is becoming a major liability. Since 9/11 her net favorable/unfavorable rating has gone from +17 to -8 (according to Kos/R2K poll). She's tanking horribly and word leaked from the McCain campaign is that her debate prep is going astoundingly bad. I'm not sure if they can afford to have her out in an environment as uncontrolled as a live nationally televised debate.

19. McCain has nothing to lose... |
|
But the schism that would open up in the Republican Party would be irreparable. Sarah is God's Annointed, and the snake-handler wing of the GOP would be furious that he subjected her to that kind of humiliation. They would either stay home or vote for Barr.
And I'm not sure Mike Huckabee (who's probably thinking about 2012 or beyond) would be willing to be a sacrificial lamb, particuarly when it's purely for appearance sake.

and he just loves to dominate the news cycle with nonsense... think it could be Guiliani though... the fundies are not going to get him elected

8. The only thing that gets her off the ticket is a family crisis. |
|
Something happening to Bristol, or something with Trig. All other scenarios show poor judgment on McNasty's part. In addition to his poor judgment being exposed, The Big Dipper's followers would be furious at him for not remaining loyal to her and pulling out the stops to protect her. A family matter arising is the only perfect out, IMHO.
Next week will be interesting.

18. game changer - if the SNL rumors are true, |
|
. . . I'm inclined to think they're going to keep her around. I think this is something she'll be able to pull off very well, and, if she pokes fun at herself, it could help to temper her poor performances up to this point. Another Hail Mary IMO - assuming the rumor is true.

15. Not gonna happen. First, McPain can't just pick another VP. |
|
Now that the convention is over he's not free to change VPs like underwear. The party would have to approve his choice, a process that could get dicey and with the election so near I don't know that there would be time.
Second, some states are already into early voting, i.e. McCain/Palin have already gleaned votes. Would the ballots be legitimate if the ticket changes? I don't know but potentially it's a legal quagmire.

16. If he does it, it'll be before the debate |
|
McCain might decide he's better off replacing Palin with someone like Giuliani or Lieberman. They wouldn't help his popularity, but at least they can do a debate and give semi-coherent responses to unscripted questions. But I don't think Huckabee or Romney would take the job at this point. Why would they want to get on board a sinking ship?
